Pretty nice offensive team on paper, but where's the defense and tough inside presence? They lost Bass also to FA. Imagine if they still had Devin Harris and they still played Nellie ball. That would be FUN to watch!

Unattainable incentives will keep ED's contract from being extended beyond this season.

Redd makes (much) more than 25% more than Erica. Thus, what other pieces get included?

And how many 5s get carried by Bux?

Come on Morey do something. If the Mavs can get a scorer for an expiring contract then the Rockets can do the same. The division is getting stronger while the Rockets are at the very best at a status quo.

All that accomplishes is killing our cap space. Nor would adding a guy like Redd make us a championship contender. It would, however, hurt our draft position. Please understand, Dallas is taking one last shot at getting Dirk a ring. If these deals don't get them over the hump, they're pretty much forced into rebuilding mode, with several bad contracts hanging around their neck.

I understand that the Mavs are in a win now mode but I was saying that why cant the team obtain players that would help the team compete next season. I am not giving up yet on the upcoming season and truly believe that the team can make a run at it. ( playoffs ) Morey is smart not to tie the team up and affect the flexibility of team management but there are deals out there that could be low risk gamble.

Like Amare, If it is true that there is an offer on the table, then getting Him would be low risk because He has an expiring contract. If He does good this year then try to sign him to an extension however if He fails then the cap space can be used to obtain a cornerstone for the franchise.

Great deal for the Bucks if true; they're clearly in full rebuild mode after salary dumping Jefferson and drafting Jennings, and they get a very useful chip in Dampier's non-guaranteed near max contract in the summer of 2010 that could be used to stockpile even more draft-picks and young players. I think that Dampier, a resigned Ryan Hollins and Shawne Williams would match salaries and cut about $3M for the Bucks, making it easier to sign Ramon Sessions.

For Dallas, I don't understand the deal, especially considering Gortat is going to be matched; they would need to play Dirk full time at center, run a rotation of Howard and Marion at the 4 spot, and slide Kidd and Redd to the 3 on occasion. While I love the lineup in the playoffs, I'd be extremely worried about getting through the regular season injury free, and I don't think Rick Carlisle is the right coach to use such a lineup. That rotation is just ripe with mismatches, however, and would be a nightmare to plan for.

    from bill simmons:

This year's Mavs are like great seats at a 50 Cent concert. You'll see them and think, "****, it's too bad this isn't 2004."

I think you're right, but just thought this statement was a little funny...they haven't won more than 34 games in 3 years and only made it to the playoffs 6 times in the past 18 seasons...only making it past the first round once (which was also the only time in the last 18 seasons they won more than 42 games in the regular season)...

they're no clippers or grizzlies, but i think we can pretty much assume they are constantly rebuilding!
