Word is leaking that Hunter Thompson was the "Deep Throat" informant, via information from unlikely buddy Pat Buchanan. The two became friends during the '72 campaign, and if this is true it's genius. Can you think of a more unlikely source? Buchanan will apparently make a statement later this week. Incredible if true.
That would be amazing. Totally unexpected!! In my book, Hunter Thompson's chances of being Deep Throat are about the same as John Paul Jones' But if it ends up being true, it would be one hell of an ending to one of the greatest mysteries in our history.
Damn, that would be crazy if it was true. Where is this rumor coming from? Also, didn't Woodward or Bernstein say that DT was gonna die soon? If it his Thompson, did they know he was gonna committ suicide?

He reportedly wasn't recovering well from hip replacement surgeries and became severely depressed. He had been telling friends recently he wouldn't be around much longer. Covering the election for Rolling Stone and writing a classic book called Fear and Loathing On The Campaign Trail. He was drinking buddies with Buchanan, and this has been documented. I'm just playing devil's advocate here. I have no idea if it's true or not, thought I think I may like it to be?

There is no way in hell Hunter S. Thompson was Deep Throat. He had no inside knowledge of the Nixon Administration whatsoever.
Been out of town for a few days... If Hunter was deep throat, why would he not write the book himself? I still can't believe he's gone...
Deep Throat was the name Woodward and Bernstein gave their source when they were writing for the Washington Post about the Watergate break-in. It has never been reveled who it is.

At least my post was a joke - although I guess its not suprising you knee jerked a dubya response when hillary came up.
