They probably give up very little. Utah wants to create cap room, the Bulls want Boozer, Portland has cap room meaning they don't have to match salary. So Portland is a facilitator and makes out with Hinrich. Basically they use (waste) their cap room on Hinrich.
Didn't they lose Sergio? It allows them a bit more flexibility and a more effective bench, if Blake and Kirk share time. Blake Rudy/Webster Outlaw/Rudy/Batum Frye (RFA?) Pryz
I guess the knowledge that the cap will go down again has teams making their moves now because the 2010 FA will not be the boom most thought. I hope the Rockets don't fall into fools gold of not making moves and waiting till the 2010 FA. I have faith the Les will not allow this season to be a bust.
Portland had to make moves now because Roy & Aldridge receive extensions next year not because they don't want to be players in 2010. They never were slated to be players.
If this trade is really being talked about, I think it is good for all 3 sides. Bulls have sorely needed a low post scorer since they traded Eddy Curry. Portland needs a point guard. Utah wants to get rid of Boozer and keep Millsap long term. Only thing is that I don't know how Jerry Sloan will tolerate Tyrus Thomas. Thomas seems like the type of player that will end up in Sloan's doghouse.
1. Because he's vastly superior to anyone we've had at that position in years. 2. Because he was considered affordable and not out of reach. In other words, he's was a realistic option and not a daydream.
Kirk is not that good a player. He can't create his own shot, he is a poor shooter, he is not a great passer and his defense does not match his reputation. I live in Chicago and they have been trying to move his contract since BEFORE they drafted Rose. This trade makes them marginally better, but they are not a top 3 in the West and their young guys will need to be paid soon, deals like this will keep them from being elite long term.
Let's hope Portland gets Hinrich, then they will feel like they have a legit shot at winning a championship and will trade Fernandez/Batum for Shane.
He certainly is not affordable, he makes over 10 mil a year. and no, he is not any better than what we have had. He is not athletic, his defense is vastly overrated, he is not a guy that drives and finished. He can shoot the 3 decently, he is very similar Rafer except he can shoot a little better.
I'm not really feeling Kirk Hinrich anymore these days but when healthy, he's one of the best point guard defenders in the game. Anyone that saw him shut down a 6'7 240 pound Paul Pierce with single coverage will agree on this.
What is it about Hinrich that everyone loves so much on this forum ? He sucks plain and simple. I'd take AB and Lowry over him anytime !!!! I hope he goes to Portland so I won't hear his name on the board anymore .....
JVG also never played Boki and look what he did when he got playing time in NJ. Hinrich is okay but will never be an All-Star caliber guard. He's average at best but all I have heard the last few years on this board is Hinrich,Hinrich, Hinrich ......... Once he gets traded it will be Rudy,Rudy,Rudy at least until he gets traded. Two average NBA players even though I wouldn't mind seeing Rudy in a Rockets uniform .........
