EXACTLY!! But let us hope that this isn't a figment of the imagination.
If it's true then all of us will have to apologize to the Rockets Management !!

This is complete bogus. Mike James is a free agent target for us. The trade was already sent into the league on draft night, before James became a free agent.

    Nice comeback.

Was the Boki/Jim Jackson for Wesley trade rescinded when JJ didn't show up in NOLA? Was the Vince Carter deal rescinded when Mourning didnt' show up in Toronto? Not only that but the NBA put in specific rules in the most recent CBA to prevent this from happening. If Stro doesn't report to Memphis, the league can fine him and suspend him without pay.

This is just more Hoopsworld BS. I'm hoping against hope that a three way deal does come out of all this, but hoopsworld's crediblity inspires zero faith that they have a "scoop" here.

m_cable beat me to the reply about the 36 hrs thing being bogus.

Mango's first post in forever made a good point that many may have missed. The hoopsworld article says

The Rockets can't afford James, so the only way he comes is if another team signs him and the gets in bed with the Memphis deal.

Mango was pointing out that by league rules there is exactly one team that is allowed to sign and trade James...the Toronto Raptors. Of course, Hoopsworld is famous for not allowing rules to stand in the way of a good rumor that they create.

I don't trust Hoopsworld and wouldn't give them much merit. But CD was awfully emphatic about not talking about anything but the guy they drafted Rudy Gay. And when prompted to discuss the trade he refused saying he could only discuss their pick. Which means nothing has been signed yet and perhaps there is more to this than meets the eye.

CD won't discuss the deal because by league rules he can't. Until Battier loses his BYC status they can't do the deal, so right now all they have is an agreement to do the deal on or after July 12th. CD can't discuss that agreement because if he did then the Rockets could receive a substantial fine from the NBA. Nothing else lurking there, he's just trying to keep the team from being fined.

m_cable is correct. Jackson was not paid for failing to report until he was traded to Pheonix. The trade was definitely not rescinded.

Aelliot would this work? Houston trades Swift and Gay to Memphis. Houston Sends a 2nd round pick to Toronto for James in a snt deal equal to or TE and then toronto sends the 2nd pick to Memphis for Swift.

    So in the end result...

Memphis gets Gay and a 2nd round pick for Battier

    Toronto gets Swift for James

Houston gets Battier and James for Gay a second round pick and Swift. And we still hold onto our MLE.

Now that's a whole lot better deal for Houston if you asked me. We still have room to work with the MLE and it does seem like Toronto could use some help at center and PF and Swift foots the bill their plus I think Swift is the kind of player Colangelo likes and they did dump Villanueva awfully fast. I know it's just speculation but is it doable.

And if it is then it is obviously contingent on James accepting the deal which might explain CD's silence. I know he can't about it for CBA reason but didn't stop West and Maybe there is more to it on or part. Anyway it's a thought.

Im not bogus, just misinformed. So the trade speculation is all trash and there is no way for us to get him without using MLE? Cuz that would be a dream come true

Forget my earlier post... if Atl is in the Picture James would at least expect the MLE. ANd if Atlanta offers him enough we can kiss James Goodbye. They can offer he much more and regardless what he said about money I doubt he walks away from milions more from another team especially after he was traded so quickly from us in spite of the fact that he loved Houston and played good for us.

I agree strongly with this. As it is now, Toronto stands to lose James for nothing. Why not at least get a young athlete with a reasonable contract who can run and dunk all day? Swift would be a good in an open court/fast break team because those teams don't make you think - just attack. Swift get's into trouble when he tries to use his noggin...

I like the idea of including Sura in the deal to make the numebrs match up to get James. It would be a great deal. Battier does all the intagnibles Sura and Barry did and he's younger with better size and better defense. I love Sura, but he could probably benefit being a part time intangibles man in Memphis with their 8-10 man rotation...

Sura is injured so he can't help anyone. Even if Toronto wants Swift and are willing to send James to Houston what does Memphis get out of it?
They will never help us out. It took a potential "star" quality player in their opinion like Gay to move an important player like Battier to us.

Maybe they didn't want Stro either. And were just willing to eat his contract to get the trade done. Sura makes less, and could come off the books entirely if he retires due to injury.

If any part of Swift not wanting to show up in Memphis is true, and he actually causes the deal to either be sweetened or prevented, ALL HAIL STROMILE SWIFT the SAVIOUR!

If Swift halts the deal, I suggest we put up a permanent Swift Shrine on the site.
