The article itself isn't bogus. It never says that the rockets have even considered this trade

The author merely suggests it as a solution.

"The Houston Rockets have hit a glitch in their attempts to finalize the trade that would send Rudy Gay and Stromile Swift to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for veteran swingman Shane Battier. The glitch? Swift told the Rockets point blank that he would not report to Memphis. He walked away from the Grizzlies last summer to sign as a free agent in Houston, but his uninspired play has caused the Rockets to re-think the 17.4 million they have wrapped up in Swift. When the Grizzlies emerged as interested in having him back, the Rockets were only too happy to oblige.

So now that Swift is stubbornly refusing to go back to Memphis - and a player has 36 hours to report after a trade or the trade is rescinded - the Grizzlies have revealed that they have a bigger plan in mind. The idea is that Swift would not stay in Memphis, where Jerry West just drafted the highly-touted Alexander Johnson, but rather be a part of an additional deal. Swift winds up somewhere else, while the Rockets end up getting an additional player as part of the three-team package.

    Enter Mike James.

Free agent Mike James has been in Houston hoping for a call from the local boys for quite some time. Several other teams have called, but James has been holding out for a meeting with the Rockets. That meeting finally came on Saturday, when Jeff Van Gundy ultimately resigned to meeting with his former sixth man. How well that meeting went may determine the future of this deal. The Rockets could certainly use the scoring that James brings to the table, but he's too short to start at the two and he's not a selfless enough player to be at the point. The Rockets can't afford James, so the only way he comes is if another team signs him and the gets in bed with the Memphis deal.

So the Rockets could potentially make out pretty well on this deal if a third team can be found to make it all come together. Houston sends out Gay and Swift, gets Battier and James, and then uses whatever is left of their resources to grab a true two. Or maybe a three who would allow McGrady to slip over to the three. I've said before and I will say again that Utah free agent Matt Harpring would be a nice fit with the Rockets' style of play. It could also be that acquiring Battier makes it less important to find a two. If McGrady slides over to that position and Battier starts alongside him, the problem could be solved that way."

If Channel 13 mention it also then there might be some true to it I hope. I doubt that Channel 13 would ran something in the air that are completely bogus. I don't think their source would be from an internet site that didn't have much credibility. So , I think it might be a good possiblity. Keep our finger cross and hope it come true.

How would such a trade be possible, salary-wise?

We're taking on Battier's and James's contract, but we're only giving up Swift's. That's not right. If this is legit, then we must be giving up another player. I think, I still don't know how this salary-crap works.

I'm 100 percent certain abc 13 sports wouldn't get a rumor from a website like hoopsworld and throw it out there during their sports segment.

to the poster who started the thread, was it Bob Allen who said this?

Man...if we end up with Battier, James, and can still use our MLE, we could make some serious noise next season. :)

They're reporting this section as fact. Even though it's entirely bogus.

The NBA specifically put in a rule to prevent guys from not reporting to their traded teams. Stro not showing up in Memphis won't rescind the trade. He'll just get fined and suspended without pay until he shows up.

And if the local media has picked up on his "solution" then like it or not, it's getting portrayed as a legit rumor (a bit of an oxymoron, but you know what I mean).

No offense, but I just don't have any faith in Hoopsworld. I've been burned by their "scoops" too many times to count. And any discussion they generate is just wishful thinking.

Seriously, Bob Allen has been in Houston for like 30 years and not once has he been the first to report something.

Is it feasible under the CBA to sign Gay to a rookie contract first then trade him to another team?

Maybe Dave Ward saw CD at a bar and overheard him on the phone and he relayed it to Bob. Stuff like that happens.
