    Xbox sale slows Amazon.com

SEATTLE (AFX) - Heavy traffic during a Thanksgiving Day sale disrupted Amazon.com's Web site for about 15 minutes, the company said.

The page-load problems began at about 11 a.m. Thursday, while the online retailer was offering Microsoft Corp (Nachrichten/Aktienkurs) .'s Xbox 360 video game systems for $100 to the first 1,000 customers. An entry-level Xbox system normally retails for about $300.

'We saw dramatically more traffic than what we anticipated,' Amazon spokesman Craig Berman said Friday.

The Xbox sold out in 29 seconds, Berman said. Amazon also sold out of discounted Mongoose mountain bikes, Barbie dolls and Amazon Prime memberships with $100 gift certificates in about 15 minutes.

Bought an xbox 360 last week online, came today along with gears of war. Game is amazing, havent played it much though, so havent been able to chainsaw, but for the half hour i got to play it earlier it was amazing.

Also, this is more geared to RC Cola or anyone who might know. I received my xbox, brand new, and the controller it came with didnt work. I tried playing gears of war, and i couldnt move my guy with the left joystick, sat there and tried to re boot the wireless took me awhile fiddeling around with it. Went out and bought a new controller and it worked. I can only assume the one it came with was broke. Does anyone know anything about that? Has there been reports of xboxes being shipped with broken controllers?

Sorry, I don't have a clue. I've never heard of that happening to anyone. It might need to be charged, but I doubt it since the new one you bought would too I imagine (not to mention that you probably would have figured that out yourself).

I posted on the xbox forums, someone said to call ms and get it replaced, do you know where to find the number to call them? Do you think it will be a pretty big hassel to mess with, and i should just not worry about it?

just return the one you got in the box that doesn't work to the place where you bought the new one. they won't know the difference and they'll be able to be reimbursed by microsoft easier than you will.

    Here is there contact info:
    http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/contact/?WT.svl=nav
You can also send them an email (click on the link for info on that). Not sure if it is worth the hassle. I'm not familiar with what Microsoft's support system is like.

Here's what their guide says regarding what to do if the controller doesn't work:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906947
Looking into this a bit, it does sound like there have been some issues with the 360 controller, but I haven't really seen many people describe the same problem you had. Here's a general thread about Xbox 360 defects at NeoGAF where people posted about their problems (and how they got it fixed in some cases):
    http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=72695

This person noted a similar problem:

    And...um...apparently this worked:

That's horribly sad. I'll go ahead and take that useless hunk of junk off of your hands for $100 plus shipping. No thanks needed. I'm just that kind of guy.

I'm tempted to forget the Wii and go 360. Someone try to talk me in or out of it.

Micro Center® Extends $100 Savings on XBOX® 360 Throughout Holidays

Anticipates Sales of Over 100,000 XBOX 360s

HILLIARD, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Micro Center® today announced that it will extend savings of $1001 on in-store purchases of any Microsoft® XBOX® 360 system throughout the Holidays. After the $100 mail-in rebate, the XBOX 360 Premium is $299.99 and XBOX 360 Core System is $199.99.

“Micro Center is committed to offering the best selection and value for our customers,” said Kevin Jones, VP – Merchandising. “In view of shortages of PS3 and Wii models and the advantages of Microsoft’s Media Center Extender, we recognized that XBOX 360 models are clearly the premier game console gifts this season.”

“With the attention the PS3 and Wii launches have produced and the shortages on both products, we believe that a $100 rebate on XBOX 360 is a great way to encourage a wider group of customers to discover our new, larger gaming departments and provide Micro Center customers a premium gaming solution for the Holidays,” added Jones.

I'm debating this myself especially since I read that if you apply for and use a new microcenter credit account, you get an ADDITONAL $100 off. That puts the premium system WITH Gears of War at around $250, the same price as a Wii. I can't confirm that this is true, but it wouldn't take much to find out.
