So your position is that the Secretary of Defense has zero responsibility for a document entitled "Secretary of Defense Worldwide Intelligence Update"

Actually, it's the position of a current Rumsfeld aide, Keith Urbahn--a detail basso conveniently left out of his post. The guy is a hack who has already lost his credibility by lying about the veracity of David Barstow's Pulitzer award-winning report on Pentagon propagandizing.

    From Zachary Roth at TPM:
Check out the link for a nice pic of the oh-so-shameless Urbahn. Also, it seems like he shares a particular quality with certain posters in the D&D (same source):

Almost every decision made by that administration was a total failure. We will hear about all of the mistakes until the end of our days.

Rumsfeld was AWFUL. He had no clue how to run a military. This is just another example of his poor leadership and judgment.

Bush did many things wrong while in office. Booting Rummy and replacing him with Gates appears to have been a really good decision.

Who knows....if Bush had another 6 years after booting Rummy, he could've made another really good decision.

Good enough that Obama retained him, and he appears to be doing nothing that suggests it was a mistake by the President. I think Rumsfeld will go down as one of our most incompetent and immoral Secretaries of Defense.

Yeah, I don't know that much context to those verses. I assume a strong believer like Bush would....

I agree completely. Gates appears to have a real grasp of effective military strategy and the ability to communicate same.

Except that it was Rumsfeld, not Bush. Perhaps the use of those verses was the last straw that caused Bush to relieve Rumsfeld of his duties. We will never know for sure.

uh, we're talking about a guy who said god spoke through him. i don't think that was the last straw. if anything, it probably made bush keep him around longer.

your position is you'd take at face value an article based in entirely on anonymous sources and hearsay, contrary to facts presented by a source willing to go on the record?

Again...we will never know for sure. Speculating is fun, but that is all this is.

Also, if Bush said that God speaks through him, do you really think he would want Rummy walking on his turf?

    basso,

Do you have a response to my post #23? Specifically, why should we believe what Urbahn (the guy you quoted) says when he's already been caught lying to defend Rumsfeld?

No dumbass, even if your "source" is right - his position is ludicrous, in that it posits that the Secretary of Defense has no responsibility for a document entitled "Secretary of Defense Worldwide Intelligence Update"

It's like when Condoleeza Rice lied to the 9-11 Commisssion, under oath and claimed that a document entitled "Bin Laden determined to strike in US" had nothing to do with any possible strike within the US.

According to that NYT article Rashmon posted, one was dated April 2003.

I would've hoped Bush to tell Rummy to quit it.

But everyone had low expectations for their potential Drinking Buddy in Chief, so it's okay.
