salt lick > rudy's but Both are damn good .. havnt had them since the undergrad days.. lets hope they expand to other parts of houston...cough cough sugar Land or galleria/rice village area..
So you can fill up and FILL UP! That's great. They have some ribs! My kids love their creamed corn and banana pudding. You better watch the waistline.
Rudy's is darn good BBQ, and more reasonably priced than Salt Lick. Things that make me like Rudys: 1. They don't drown the meat in their sause, which lets you actually taste the flavor. 2. Their service is outstanding (at least at the one near my house). 3. Their creamed corn is to die for. Yes, I said it: creamed corn.
There's been a Rudy's in Denton for a while, but I never felt driving out there to get some. Another Rudy's opened up by my house here in the Dallas area, so I finally tried it. I was a bit disappointed. The brisket was dry, the ribs were dry. The sauce was "eh". So I tried it 2 more times at different times of the day to give them 2 more chances... it was ok, but nothing great. A few months ago I was watching the Food Network and they talked about a Leo's BBQ in Oklahoma City. I was bored, so I drove up there and had some. The brisket was ok, but damn, the ribs were some of the best I've ever had. Loved their sauce, too... it was different from the typical vinegar and ketchup with a pound of black pepper I'm used to in Texas.
Just as an update, I just called the new Rudy's and today was their Grand Opening at 4PM!!! See y'all there.
Oh yeah, the Rudy's here was giving out free BBQ to ppl as a trial run the night or week before they opened I think.... or so I was told. Guess it's too late for you guys.
I've been around I tell ya, the best Texas BBQ I have ever had is in Pearland at Central Texas BBQ. My Grandparents, predemise, used to live there. And when I would go to visit, it was on. I've lived in Houston, Dallas and Austin and Central Texas BBQ is the best. I really like Goode Company but for a one location authenticity style BBQ, Central Texas is the best. Check out this article: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ent/dining/reviews/3352360.html It is almost as good as Saturday morning (12:30 PM) at Rubys on Guadalupe after a night at 6th Street.
I've had their BBQ and it is damn tasty. I once stopped there for dinner on my way to a gig in Pearland. Big mistake. I had the sleepies all night long. I like my own BBQ, of course, but when I go out in Houston, I like different places for different items..... Pork Ribs - Williams Brothers Smokehouse (Thelma's a close 2nd) Sausage - Goode Company (spicy Czech sausage) Beef Ribs - Pappas Brisket - Thelma's
You live in Circle C? Or are you talking about the MINI Salt lick, but not the official one in Driftwood. DD
I still like Carls' (on 290 by Cy Fair High School) the best. Don't get out that way much anymore since I'm in Kingwood now. What are some good places on the NE side?
i'm off 2222 salt lick 360. hey its actually pretty cool! they have a brisket burger which is a mix of ground beef and brisket.
Btw, they had a BBQ showdown on the travel channel last night. At the end, they put Rudy's brisket as the Texas BBQ, Bryant's pork shoulder as the KC BBQ, Rendezvous' pork ribs as the Memphis BBQ, and someplace's Chopped pork as the Carolina BBQ. Highest score you could get was a 70. Memphis - 45 Texas - 30 KC - 27 Carloina - 15
i've seen that show. the judges were from california. there's a better show called Bar B Q Bastions that they show from time to time.
Yep......California "Cowboys" I'm not exactly respecting the scores too much. I remember one of the judges (a female, California "Cowboy"--from a REAL cattle ranch {they just had to point that out}) making a face when she tasted one of the Q's, and saying "ooh, that is spicy.....I don't like spicy." Then don't be judging BBQ you stupid b****. Go eat a ****ing salad and a tofu burger.
I actually saw that last night. I was suprised they didn't go to City Market in Luling or to Huntsville for my personal favorite.. Praise the Lord and pass the ribs!!!
FFB, was it Arthur Bryant's in KC? If so, that place had the best BBQ sandwich I've ever had. Their combo sandwich is a slice of white bread, heaps of turkey, brisket, sausage, bbq sauce, slice of white bread, heaps of turkey, brisket, sausage, bbq sauce and a slice of white bread. They make it on wax paper, throw about a half pound of fries on top and wrap it up. Good God that thing was awesome.
