Man, I just got home from an all-you-can-eat at the Salt Lick, and I am so stuffed, it's absurd. It was a business thing with my wife, who wanted me along. Didn't take a lot to get me to go, considering. I've got to say that Rudy's is also excellent. Great ribs. GREAT ribs. Tasty banana pudding. The sauce is OK, but I really like the East Texas kind of sauce, like the kind I make myself. Really good, though. Houston could use Rudy's and the Salt Lick. Plenty of room for the two!
There are so many good restaurants popping up on the north side of town. I just might have to sober up one of these days so I can drive up there safely to check it out.....
I'll probably get shot for this, but to me bbq is bbq. I'm fine with Kraft bbq out of a bottle. It's all the same to me.
Wow...I thought Rudy's was everywhere. We have had one in Brownsville for years. My Mustang Club even has a 10% discount whenever we present our club's membership card. We used to have our monthly meetings there, but have recently moved our meetings to Hooter's!!! I think we'll start having weekly meetings!
Ha, that's my xanga. Dude who are you and why are you cyberstalking me?? Yeah so me and a buddy were just throwing around the idea of opening a Rudy's in H-town since Rudy's is amazing and we couldn't believe Houston didn't already have one. So I wrote in to find out if they are franchising. They said no but that they were coming to Houston.
People like Ruddy's? Last time I went there my ribs were like beef jerky. So dry... I do like their brisket though.
Rudy's is terrible in my expert opinion. There is a new BBQ joint/brewpub on Barton Springs in Austin called Uncle Billy's Smokehouse and Brewpub. It just opened about a week and a half ago. The baby back ribs are great. The brisket was okay. They're going to start selling the beer they brew in a couple of weeks. One of Live Oak's former brewers is brewing their beer. They currently have a nice line up of mostly Texas microbrews. Steer away from their mac & cheese if you go unless you don't like your's cheesy. Their beans were pretty good.
Does nobody like Iron Works from Austin? Rudy's sauce is too peppery for my tastes...the meats are all above average, but the sauce kills it for me
Took Louetta off of I-45 today on my way home from a work meeting -- the Rudy's looks like it is ready to open any day now. They finished paving the area in the front where the gas pumps are and now have a tall sign out. It's on the corner of I-45 and Louetta, smack in the shadow of Splashtown.
u guys should head up to thelmas rite by toyota center. once u go all these places in houston wont taste as good.
Just out of curiosity, and I know it's not a whole menu of BBQ, but has anyone tried the 'fall off the bone ribs' at Texas Road House? MMmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Thanks for the heads up Clutch. Technically, it is no longer summer so they lied to us about it being done by then! Err, who am I kidding, I'll be there with bells on when they open. Somebody post when it's official!
FYI...their breakfast tacos are damn good, too. Some locations don't carry them, but if they do, I'd suggest you try them.
