Your analogy is better and acceptable but...

I am not going to be RRU's defense lawyer on this one. Not because I disagree with his position (I also feel that RT is not doing a good job with the young team) but because I did not hear the exact phrasing and context of the question.

IMO, it is entirely possible to tactfully, tastefully and respectfully ask an incubent coach his opinion of his future if his team does not make the playoffs. I will let you and RRU argue over what degree of manners he did or did not exhibit. For me, it's a valid question to ask when phrased with a non-confrontational style.

I think Heypartner should quit licking his butt because each time he opens his month it smells bad. What's wrong with people who want Rudy to accept responsiblity for his actions. Didn't you mommy tell you that if you have nothing nice to say then shut up....

I just listened to the Rudy T show and I can honestly say the entire exchange was very polite and tasteful. The caller was really respectful and Rudy showed no anger or offense. I thought Rudy answered it honestly and fully.

So RRU, what happened to this statement of yours from the Petition thread.

"<i>And, if this winds up as nothing more than <b>fodder for bbs jokes</b> in the future, so be it. </i>"

Like you said, let the fun begin! You called it, no?

    GATER,

I'm not arguing with RRU over manners or tact, or RRU's transparent "respect," given his abusive language in the petition threads...others are. I was (in my own way) challenging RRU's mettle to see how he answers, since that is exactly what he attempted to do to Rudy. It is fun, fodder for BBS jokes; especially when you can get someone to cave by telling you to "shut up, you meanie. I'm not gutless...your mean"

    "fodder for BBS jokes"

I'm taking HP's side on this. Did that petition ever get sent???

I also think this thread title is way too over dramatic. There isn't a sane person on the world who thinks Rudy should step down or be fired. The way people are saying that HP was really rude is also funny, all he asked was if he mentioned that he started a petition to get him fired. That would have taken real guts.

RRS "Hi, long time listener, first time caller here."

    Rudy "Hi, what's your question."

RRS "Not really a question, uh, I have a petition here asking that you be fired."

Rudy "Uh huh. Puzzled look on his face, then he mouths "jackass" to the studio crew.

RRS "Yeah, I don't mean to sound pretentious, but I post at clutchcity.net and I asked for Clutch and Jeff over there to give my petition a forum because it isn't just that I really hate you, I mean this is something that ranks up there with the movement to keep the team in Houston, only this is even bigger."

Rudy "Ok, how many rings do you have?"

    "click. rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"

Ok, now I'm being rude, but I had to do it. I heard the show and Rudy didn't say hell no, he said he wasn't quitting. He also said that he tells Les that if he doesn't have confidence in him, then Les has to make a move and that he wouldn't fight it. So for the misrepresentation of Rudy, I had to make a little fun of you.

i think its really cool that rudy t does these shows. he goes out of his way every week to come down to 610 and talk ball with a bunch of fans. how many coaches in the league do that?

im all for "tough" questions, but does he really have to put up with people asking him to step down. its seems pretty tacky considering that he is actually taking the time to do the show.

if you think about it, rudy t. is the only constant for 4 years now. injuries or not, with or without yao, with or without SF, the rox would probably miss the playoffs again.

no matter how much talent the rox have, it does not matter even if a 30 year old jordan is playing with them, as long as this coach is with them, the rox will not make very much progress.

    time for a coaching change.

of course, those rudy lovers will come out again and react. if someone can justify all the bad decision making and substitutions that he is making, i am all ears.

If you think about it, the fact Rudy is the only constant for 4 years now is why the situation calls for patience. You make Rudy's point. This is too easy.

It's a little too much to say that there is no sane person who thinks Rudy should be fired. Rudy has made mistakes. There have been some really bad contracts, and having an iso offense for 2 years is now causing us problems. Steve and Mobley now have to learn so much when they should have been learnig the passing game the whole time. The amount of progress (or lack thereof) outside of Yao Ming bothers me the most.

I don't think Rudy should be fired this year, but I might think so next year, and that won't mean I'm insane.

But no coach is perfect. How many teams passed up an Amare Stoudamire? I believe Miami took Butler, and Pat Riley is a great coach. Rudy is a pretty good judge of talent, that's for sure.

i agree that rudy is good judge of talent that is why he should just be a scout than a coach.

i understand. but how much more time does he need to get good result? people are tired of hearing excuses. is 4 years not enough? the leaders of this team are not young at all. they have 3/4 years under their belt. they added talent. they got people back from injuries. do not tell me that it will take him another year to make it all jell. what happen if there are more injuries. do we give him another year?

the kings have webber miss a lot of games this year but they continue to win. the lakers miss shaq for alot of games and they are now in 6th place. if you think about it, they only have 2 stars. the rest have less talent than what the rox have on their bench.

tell us what else does rudy t. need and we will shut up.

So, you would have fired Rick Adelman and replaced him with PJ Carlesimo like Golden State did.

    am I right?

I find the last line delightfully ironic.
