    Mr. Clutch,

I did like getting rid of Rudy because I felt he had not had that impact that SF and CM needed.

However, I wanted Dunleavy as the coach, not JVG.

JVG was a good idea for SF and CM, he is a lousy idea for Tmac and YM.

If you change the team personel you need to get a coach that works well with that cast of players...JVG ain't it.

Did any of you even listen to JVG radio show yesterday?

Are we this jaded? We have apparently been enjoying refugee status in the Isle of Denial and have completely blocked out the the last two years presided over by Rudyt and his staff. Some of us here are prematurely intoxicated by deliriums of what we have seen in LA or Orlando so far but the season is not complete yet. I still say all of this reactions are a result of distorted emotions and short-sightedness.

What many of us are suffering from now is the classic relative deprevation. With time I think it will go away fickle-ly as usual.

True, but I think it's hard to swallow seeing former Rocket personnel do better than our team especially the way we ripped into them before they left.

To add to that, I really don't see any improvement in the way JVG is running things. We have been consistently bad on offense and the defense comes and goes. IMO, it would take a dramatic change in perspective and attitude for the coaching staff as well as the players to turn this season around. With the Rockets barely able to score 80 points on a given night, tell me it doesn't irritate you a little bit seeing Rudy's Lakers drop 115 on the Sac Kings or reading a Francis stat line of 27 8 7?

The ripping on this board is so knee-jerk, it's laughable. I mean half the people calling for JVG's head on this board after less than 2 seasons were the ones supporting either he or Larry Brown as coach. Many of them were the ones ripping into Rudy T as well. It's almost like a comedy watching some of this banter, especially when you dig back in the archives and see what people were saying less than 2 years ago at the beginning of the JVG regime.

I personally thought Rudy T needed to go. And I was one of his biggest defenders and stuck with him right until the end at which point I saw it just wasn't working. However, I can't agree with a coach being canned after less than 2 seasons especially after an overhaul of the roster in the off-season.

    I'll reserve judgment.

PS - kudos to Mr. Clutch for admitting he was originally a supporter. :)

I would like the Lakers, if they got rid of Kobe.

I personally can't have fun watching an egomaniac possible rapist hogging the ball.

    Woohoo, I get kudos! :D

I still consider myself a supporter of JVG, with some doubts. And I also underestimated Rudy T's ability, LA has also had huge roster changes and the team looks like they trust in him and his system.

Unfortunately for me, it's getting increasingly frustrating to see so much knee jerk criticism on JVG. Many of which are on the same order of bashing exhibited by Yao haters. It used to be "laughable" and "comedy" like, but now it's starting to get on my nerves a little bit.

My chi is just not strong enough.

Very true. He was awesome against the Kings. 12 assists, and didn't force many shots.

It wasn't just the King's game. He does it almost every game.

I wish Tmac would "hog" the ball the way Kobe does. That's if he is attacking the basket, and not shooting very long jumpers.

JVG doesn't run enough plays for him. Rudy runs most of their offense through Kobe.

There are no less than 15 to 20 teams in the league that are more fun to watch than ours. Not necc better teams, but certainly more fun to watch.

While I don't feel JVG is the sole reason we're losing (I think we'd be right with Dallas if the PF and PG spots weren't utter trash), I do feel he is largely to blame for our embarrassing offensive schemes. If he can't score with either Steve or Tracy, that says it all.

    True.

I for one believe Kobe is a better player than Tmac. Especially when it comes to attacking the basket and beating the zone. Like Yao, Tmac is not ready to have most of the offense run through him. It's a good thing they are on the same team. I also believe that soon, maybe within 2 years, both of these guys will be ready to be the man. If you think the board is ugly now regarding the coaching issue, just wait till the Yao vs. Tmac threads pops up. I can already predict what will be said by both sides.

I don't know why T-Mac doesn't drive more, he can practically break anyone down in the nba, instead he settles for those jumpers.
With that said, I don't get why not many plays are called for T-Mac, it makes even less sense when Yao isn't cashing in from the low post. They should make it easier for him and give him some screens.

play good basketball then have a geme where you don't shoot the ball, and you end up right back in JVG's doghouse.

This probably belongs in the Tmac vs. Kobe thread.

    Just my opinion:

I think Tmac does not have as many finishing moves as Kobe. If you remember Kobe of 3,4 years ago, he would get by his man only to throw up a wild shot in a crowd of people. Kobe learned how to finish his drives with a move that is controlled/logical. They still look wild at times, but replays will show that he planned the move, and practiced it. Kobe's finishes are strong, he either gets fouled, or he'll put up a good shot. Tmac needs to learn how to finish like Kobe.

I was originally both a fire Rudy T. and a hire JVG supporter. To be fair, I was a hire anyone supporter - I would have been happy with JVG, Larry Brown, Dunleavy, Carlisle, Donnie Nelson...anyone.

But you have to be jaded about the performance on the floor. Seriously, basketball is not that complex a sport. Basketball coaching really isn't that complex either, imo. I've been questioning JVG's calls since the beginning of the season, though, even before it turned out that the Rockets were just mediocre...specifically his decision to start Mo Taylor (which I still attribute to Juwan Howard's uneffectiveness this season) and his play-calling.

imagine yao getting the looks chris mihm is getting...he would average 24+ a game...

rudy definitely gets the most out of his "role" players(cook, brown, jones...)..and the ones on the rockets are either in the doghouse...or going to be in it..
