That would be awesome! Then we could get back to playing offense and see what T-Mac and Yao can really do.

However, it makes me wonder how many head coaches were released/fired/stepped down/whatever you want to call it and then came back to coach the team in such a short period of time?

I believe that Frank Hamblen was an assistant under Tex Winter when the Rockets first moved to Houston and Rudy and Calvin were second year players.

I believe that he had one interim head coaching job in Denver a decade ago... after Doug Moe?

How about bringing in Rudy as an assistant coach? Now THAT would be cool! JVG and Rudy at the helm of the Rockets!

Well....Im somewhat glad that the early word is that it isnt the cancer....thats a good thing if true...any other illness is more easily treatable...but cancer is a mutha.....hope the early word ends up being the final word....

the good news is that I no longer have to be torn about the Fakers....with Rudy gone....I have absolutely ZERO reason to even attempt to like them...that is indeed a great aspect to this. :D:D

I would really like to see Rudy take the time to get totally well....and then come back to the Rockets in any capacity...scout, GM, even coach....hell...Rudy could be VG's main assistant....let him concentrate on helping the players develop their skills and let VG worry about the Xs and Os...a lot less stress that way....

again...good luck to Rudy in whatever he does...he is a true Rocketman in my eyes...

    Rudy to TNT!

Seriously, I hope he gets well. He probably should have taken a longer vacation after the cancer.

I hope all is well with Rudy physically and mentally.

But this Frank Hamblin guy seem like a bad omen.......maybe...

1991 - Del Harris = stomach virus ------->> sudden resignation.

    2005 - Rudy T = stomach virus ------->> sudden resignation.

So since the early reports do not tie this to his illness does this make Rudy T a quitter? I mean if he is not sick he is quitting on the team right?

so does this mean rudy won't be at the rockets/lakers game this sunday?...maybe JVG will be fired by then, and replaced by rudy!...(explains the timing)...

Now the Lakers are saying he is only "considering" reitrement...

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6895713/

LOS ANGELES - Rudy Tomjanovich is considering resigning as Los Angeles Lakers coach for health reasons, a team spokesman said Tuesday.

ESPN.com reported that Tomjanovich would step down following Tuesday night’s game against Portland. Spokesman John Black said that would not be the case.

“He’s considering several options and resigning is one of them. That decision has not been made,” Black said. “There won’t be an announcement tonight. He won’t coach tonight because he’s not feeling well. This has nothing to do with cancer.”

Tomjanovich, who won a pair of NBA championships with the Houston Rockets, missed Los Angeles’ win over Charlotte on Sunday night because of a stomach virus. He returned to the coaching ranks this season after recovering from bladder cancer.

In the perfect world, Phi goes back as coach of the Lakers, JVG goes back to become coach of the Knicks, and Rudy come back to coach the Rockets, everybody's happy except Kobe:D

Anyone know if Rudy still lives in Houston. It would be great to see him around town.
