    I agree with DD,sounds like a buyout.
Having RudyT healthy is obviously the important thing here, but beyond that,I wouldn't be surprised at all,if we see him coaching again.

I agree. If a coach retires they do not remain on the payroll. This is a buyout.

I think that this was legit; I really don't think he was forced out. If you look at the Rockets "Health Related Retirement" conference vs. the Lakers "Health Related Retirement" conference, I think there is a noticeable difference in Rudy's mannerisms. It's not that the words came easy to him in the LA one, but he did not have that "I am not a liar and therefore I am struggling to find words" face that he did here; he sounded discouraged but honest. I just thought he looked like a prisoner in a ransom video during the Rockets one, trying to signal Jack Bauer or someone to come save him. He sounded coherent today.

I think he got burned out by the LA job. I am sure there are some specifics that were not discussed, but I don't think anyone forced him out. I think he sounds like a guy whose life got out of whack. Remember, he was probably living a sane schedule for the first time in his life before returning to coaching. I am sure rebuilding the NBA inertia is difficult for a guy who just spent so much energy trying to get his phsycial and mental health straight. He very well might have screwed up personally with recovery or family or something, but I think it just looks like he was not up to the stress and its ramifications on his well-being.

By the way, is this guy walking HOUSTON TEXAS or WHAT! Leaving Houston to go to the big city, flaming out after a week... there's no place like home, there's no place like home... He was meant to be at his home. He is a rocket. That is why it did not work. Because he-is-a-rocket.

Speaking of which, what gig could be more low-stress than coaching the Rockets? McGrady does the interviews, Yao says, "sure, whatever you want sir," and 9300 people show up for home games. Sounds like a trip to Canyon Ranch to me, we oughta trade Van Gundy to LA for Rudy's services. Come back home, Rudy!

    ps. Great post earlier, Batman.

RudyT should quit while he's ahead. This is in not disrespect to the man but clearly Rudy has reached the limits of his psychological wherewithal. His tendency to obssess is simply not healthy. Better that RudyT take some extended leave and get away from basketball for awhile...

...kind of like that Zen dude at the Australian Open.

I couldn't say "I'm shocked" after learning about this for some reason. It's almost as if it was expected...Rome suggested he may have been forced...Who really knows?

With the team they have and the injuries and such, should they be doing better?

Two songs and two groups, SWT. Won't Get Fooled Again, by the Who, and Once in a Lifetime by the Talking Heads. And Batman knew that, of course, using artistic license.

Great post about Rudy, Batman. I feel a lot of the same things you feel. A lot of us do.

    Health reasons
    Forced out
    Sick of Kobe

I'm thinking its all of the above. As much I would love Rudy T coaching the Rockets, or just to see him coaching again, maybe this is for the best.

Rudy is an intense guy who puts a lot of stress on himself and propably just couldn't handle the added stress being dumped on by the Laker organization, fans and Kobe who didn't appreciate the kind of man they had there. All of that just took a toll on him.

I would rather remember Rudy raising his arms up in triumph than as someone being carted off the court with an aneurism or ending up in the Betty Ford clinic.

No matter what though Rudy We Rockets Fans will always love ya!

    Another forced out theory?

It's happened twice now...is it really that improbable that maybe the job is just really wearing him down?

So much for the "Yao's gonna go play for Rudy and the Lakers when he becomes a free agent" talk.

Rudy's resigning put an end to that crap.

I really had a hard time seeing Rudy in LA, it just didn't seem right. Come back to Houston, come to the games, relax, enjoy. I would love to see your smiling face at the Rocket's games. I would love to hear you interviewed at the Rocket's games. Come home, Rudy!

Tomjanovich, 56, said he'll never coach again.

``That's clear in my mind -- absolutely not,'' he said.

Can we stop the wanderlust now.........Yao will sign an extension this summer to remain a Houston Rocket.

Is there even a doubt about that? Charvo please take your clones away from this BBS. :p

I wonder if Rudy has any hard feelings toward the Rockets organization for making him resign early. It's clear now that his health was in his best intrest. Hopefully he can forgive us and come home.

DA from TNT just said that there was pressure from the front office that helped him to retire... as magic sits there and trys to spin what DA is saying..

    On TNT now:

Rudy wasn't 'pushed' out, but he was pissed about the 'negativity' surrounding the Lakers org. E.g., he was questioned about some of his decisions after a game.

Sounds like he felt that some on the team and in the Lakers org did not have confidence in his abilities.
