The coach is the first person to go because he's the easiest person to put the blame on for a bad team. That's how it is in ALL sports, it's alot easier to fire your coach then it is to get rid of your players. You might be able to say that about Pat Riley, but not for Phil Jackson. I remember seeing him deal with Rodman and take alot of his crap. I might be wrong but I also remember seeing Rodman heave a few ill-advised 3's back when he was with Chicago too and Jackson didn't sit him on the bench. ------------------
Cmon, on the Rodman comment, if you noticed, Phil was the only coach to contain him enough to get results, ie a couple more championships. I think before he joined the Bulls he was with the Spurs and was totally uncontrollable and the Spurs were unable to go anywhere. Then after his stint with the Bulls he was picked up by the Lakers and that didn't last long as the Lakers let him go. And the last stop was in Dallas where again he was let go after a short period. Rodman may have threw up some bad 3s but Phil had his respect and he knew how far his rope was with Phil. And if you want to talk about crazy 3s, see Barkely when he played for the Rocks. I am not trying to bash Rudy but for a long time I kept defending him as a coach whenever I would get into with my Laker and Bulls friends and of course I would always say "Two Championships" but now I am tired of hiding behind that phrase. Rudy needs to make better decisions when it comes to the Xs and Os. You do realize that he could be the first coach ever to win championships with the same team in different eras. If he can do that then I Mo give him his props. But it doesnt look like we will be playing for any championships this year though. I would be happy though if we won 42 games this year. ------------------ Rockets Season Ticket Holder
crash and TheFreak, Robinson was not in the game during that stretch. I'm sure Rudy knew that if he called Dream's number, Robinson would follow him Personally, I do not want those twin towers on the court together; they are the best defensive team in the league when those two are on the court. I can certainly understand why a coach would field a rotation that results in Popa deciding to keep Robinson on the bench longer than usual. Calling him a "moron" for that is what is not right around here. Why call the coach a "moron" for a strategy other coaches use against SA, you moron. Your main complaint appears to be nothing more than KT is too small to guard Duncan. Uh...no ****. Say, let's see, then: let's blame the coach for that. Why not rant like this instead: "Why did CD draft KT, since he can't guard Duncan? CD is just forcing Rudy to field a small line-up." you moron.
OK HP I will type slow so you might be able to understand...ok. Fact. When KT and Walt were on the floor together the Spurs managed to pull ahead by 8 pts! Please tell me what Walt contributed. Fact. I never said he should have brought in Hakeem! Did you hear me say that? No you moron! Learn how to READ! Idiot! I thought Mo Taylor was playing him very well. I also thought Los was doing ok. Both of those guys would have provided a little more height than 6'7" KT. Once again I ask, what did Walt contribute? At least Shandon can play some D. How about Langhi for a change. It certainly could not have hurt! I'll admit that last night I might have exaggerated a little because I was pissed but if you would have taken the time to read my thread on "the morning after" then you would see I have had time to cool off. But I still think Rudy T's rotation was part of the problem last night! Maybe if you would pull your head out of his ass you could have seen that! ------------------
Crash, you are wrong. When the Spurs went up by 8, I dont think Duncan even scored. Kerr, anderson, and the other spurs players benefited off the doubles thrown at Duncan. It didnt matter who Rudy put on him he would probably have doubled him, because he would rather have a team beat you from the outside than the inside. By the way, Larry Brown took the Clippers to playoffs. ------------------
Look, how many pts did KT and Walt provide while Anderson was hitting from the outside? I know Walt tossed up several Bricks! KT was having no offensive success against Duncan either. Do you think Mo might have changed that a little? I think it is very strange that you defend a line up that has Walt and KT in it when we pulled them out we imeadiately closed the gap! Didn't you notice that? And I don't mean to sound down on KT because he worked his ass off but Walt just plain sucked again! 1 for 10 shooting? What gives? ------------------
I admit Walt has been plain horrible of late. In yesterday's game, it seemed like whenever he had a shot, it could have stopped the spurs monetum at the time or start the rockets on a scoring run. He never delivered though. KT played Duncan as well he could. Better players have fared worse on the defensive end against Duncan than KT did. ------------------ [This message has been edited by tacoma park legend (edited February 04, 2001).]
It is funny how you manage to blame this on Rudy. It is not his fault our players suck. Walt and KT sucked last night, but guess what, so did Shandon, just as bad. And Rudy had to find some way to win. We were NOT winning the game up until that point. We were in it, but a coaches job isnt to keep his team in it. He has to find some way to win. Rudy figured Shandon was playing poorly, why not try some new lineups. But dont even try and blame Rudy for the lack of talent on our team. At most, we have 2 great players--francis, mobley--1 good player-taylor, and a bunch of not so good role players. You cant win with that. Rudy is definitely doing his best. He is going through one heck of a bad situation and making it at least plausible for us fans to have HOPE and talk about our team. Pessimism sucks. ------------------
You know the funniest thing about these people saying that Rudy sucks and he is a bad coach is that since 1990 only Phil Jackson has had more success then Rudy. Pat Riley has been to the Finals once, Larry Brown hasn't been there AT ALL. Larry Brown has been to 2 conference finals I believe in the 90, Pat Riley 3 times, guess what? Rudy has been to the conference finals 3 times and has TWO championship rings! And if you say it was because of Dream, well you would have to say the same thing about Riley and Brown and THEIR superstar players. Rudy is doing a good job with a talented, but undermanned team. ------------------ Dream a deadly Dream. . .
You hit the nail right on the head RocksMillenium. Rudy has been a very sucessful, and underrated coach. Nobody realizes or fathoms the fact that we have a young, unporoven team. I mean just a few years ago we had 3 of the top 50 players in the NBA (4 if you count Pippen). Not to mention a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT STYLE OF GAME. Rudy had to adapt a brand NEW style that is 2 years in the making. He had to change all of his pholosophies about coaching big men, and turn it in to a GUARD oriented team. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE any other coach try and accomplish that!!!! WHY DOUBT A HEAD COACH WHO IS A PROVEN WINNER?!?!?!?!?!? HOW MANY LOSING, NON-PLAYOFF TEAMS HAS RUDY COACHED?!?!?!?!?!? Bottom line is Rudy is a good guy, the players want to play for him, and he has the resume to back it up. ------------------ "Chucky who?" Charles Barkley
