Without Yao or Tmac - JVG would quit......just like he quit on the Knicks.

You realize how much worse our defense would be if Rudy was our coach? Hayes would be completely useless on our team. V-Span, Novak, and Bonzi would probably get more playing time, so a lot of people here would be happy. Would it translate to more wins or a ring?

That is silly Rudy always preached defense and played a lot of role players.

If only we could hire Rudy T as an assistant coach (more like an offensive coordinator) just to give JVG another perspective on offense especially. Plus if we bring back Francis next year, you have more reunions. I worry that Rudy T might get in JVG's doghouse though...

He did, but definitely not to the point that JVG does. Our defensive points allowed and FG% would be up.

In your opinion...but in my opinion we would be better due to Rudy having a more balanced offense and defense.

    Defense doesn't win championships....balance does.

Useless thread. One is a PROVEN NBA Championship coach. Thread title is also misleading. It should read "Better coach for THIS team"

Perhaps if a posting style (non-stop whining after losses) is not getting through, you've got to try another?

How long do we have to hear you whine about JVG? Or V-Span or lack of inspiration or other random non-sense?

Apparently, you're terrible at delivering your message too?

Alas, if only you bought fans here tickets...

I don't know, but I liked Rudy much better. Different styles, Rudy couldn't seem to reign in Cat and Francis. The Rockets went from too little structure to way too much structure. If JVG left this year, I wouldn't miss him.

Jut one question for JVG: "Where is the ring?"

Anyone who thinks that JVG is a better coach than Rudy does not understand the game of basketball.

Two rings, Olympic Gold, and a bronze at the Worlds with CBA talent --> Rudy T

A better poll would be Rudy vs. Phil Jackson -- has Phil ever won anything on the world stage?

Maybe you should contribute something useful to a basketball thread.

Until those problems go away, Shanna.

Here is one you should understand - why don't you actually get off your butt and contribute some money to this site?

Alas, if only you were had the stones to actually vote or participate in the thread instead of just bashing the thread starter.

Perhaps, that would make it more interesting.

It reminds me of when Jack Pardee was brought in for the Oilers, the team went from one extreme to the other.

JVG, despite all his faults is miles above Rudy T. The only thing Rudy has over JVG is his Public Relations. I hated the way he coddled and overlooked Steve Francis play. And his ISO for Stevie. Yes, he did have 2 rings, but if JVG was coaching the same team then he might have 3 rings by now!!!!!!!!!!

OMG you must've said that at least 100 times. If we were on an Astros forum, you'd be 100% right. But this is basketball. If you're seriously going to tell me that offense only consists of 50% of the Suns', Wizards', Nuggets', and Warriors' game, you are horribly mistaken.

Similarly, teams like the Rockets, Spurs, Bulls, Pistons when they won it all, Grizzlies when they had Fratello, are far more defensive-oriented than the Suns, Wizards, Nuggets, and Warriors. Defense is our identity. It's not that offense is unimportant, but we thrive on shutting the opponent down and forcing them to shoot jumpers. The expectations of our offense is to score efficiently and prevent turnovers and bad shots, both of which can lead to fast breaks and giving up points in general. But don't forget that defense is still our identity.

Look at our entire roster. Besides two superstar players, we are once again not that talented like 2 years ago. Chuck Hayes starting at PF... are you serious!? Without JVG's defense, we would be chasing for the 8th spot, given the injuries we suffered earlier. This is why JVG is a COY candidate. You really think Rudy T could pull off the same thing? Please...

    Oh, and...

If this team had been coached by Rudy we would have defeated Dallas in Round One and rolled on to the 3rd NBA championship for the Rockets.

Rudy knows how to win the big ones -- Olympic Gold and NBA championships.

i remember rudy T used to let yao do fancy passes and let him shot a three pointer   rockets should be an offensive team with all the offensive weapons we have, but van gundy turned it into a defensive team. van gundy is perfect for the pistons and rudy T is a better coach for the rockets.
