Dan Dakota has always said JVG is a good coach and, besides, JVG has been growing on him lately. Also, if JVG starts winning it's probably because he started doing some of the things DD wanted him to do.

So, no, he wouldn't have to change his mind.

    JVG

No matter what players he has on his team, the team is always ranked as one of the best defensive teams in the NBA. Even last year, we werent winning alot of games, but we were competitive, especially with the players he had, the rockets still had one of the top defenses

I liked Rudy, and yes i appreciate the rings, and the era of winning, but he is a players coach and, he did have the right group of guys on the team.

I choose JVG bc I appreciate the preparation, X's and O's, defensive mentality of a coach over one who is more inspirational

I'm sorry, but Rudy T was a very subpar coach.

I will always thank him for giving us those championships, but Rudy was blessed with well-behaved veterans ( with the exception of Maxwell ) and really smart rookies ( all to Rudy's credit because he drafted them ) who basically coached themselves. All the b-ball guys he had during the good years were of natural high b-ball IQ, none of which were taught by Rudy. Later on, most became assistant or head coaches ( Elie, Jent, Brooks ), contributing veterans to other championship teams ( again Elie, Horry ), great commentators ( Kenny, Clyde ), and overall smart players ( Hakeem and Cassell ). Rudy is like the subpar schoolteacher who was blessed with genius kids as his student. Just because the class gets the highest TAAS scores in the nation doesn't make Rudy the greatest teacher.

Conversely, Rudy's actual coaching skills is more accurately defined when they were rebuilding. He was horrible with X's and O's, was fierecely loyal to all his players to a fault, and worse, let his young players lose control. I'm not saying he's a bad coach, but he's definately not among the best. He relies to heavily on being a player's coach, all of which is great but doesn't define him as an overall versatile coach. You can't put him in the same plane as Larry Brown, Pat Riley, Jerry Sloan, Mike D'Antoni, Don Nelson and yes, Jeff Van Gundy. Rudy reminds me more of Chuck Daly.

Jeff Van Gundy, on the other hand, has made gold out of straw in almost every situation he's been in. He turned the mess Riley left in NY into a respectable team, being the only coach to take a number 8 seed to the Finals. His X's and O's are typically more sound than Rudy's ever were and he never backs down from being the main guy in charge. You can give JVG a crappy roster and he'd still put mileage out of them. To put it frankly, JVG uses cold hard logic to win his games...Rudy uses magic fire fairies, a lucky tie, and the power of charm to get his wins.

And for that, I cannot respect Rudy as a great coach. I can only thank him and the basketball gods for putting him in the right situation, for putting us in the right situation, and coming out with two championship wins.

JVG is a better coach all the way.

Rudy T never had a creative offense, and they were less fun to watch then JVG's. JVG's offense has much more player movement the Rudy's ever did.

P.S.: I honestly believe, deep in my heart, that JVG will win us a championship. Give us a couple of seasons and a few playoff losses to harden our young group and the Rockets will become warriors.

Very excellent point. JVG is a better offensive coach than Rudy was. The '05 team proved it by scoring 75 points frequently by halftime during the second part of the '05 season.

I suppose Rudy T's offense is creative in a way. We get to see SF continually iso up, and we get to see him act like he's on the And1 Mix Tape Tour. He has some really creative moves, unfortunately a lot of them result in him dribbling it out of bounds, off his foot, or throwing the ball into the third row.

Heck yes, I would man up about it......and say I was wrong....I have no problem doing that at all.

I was wrong about Langhi.....people love to point out when I am wrong, but my "right" factor is a LOT LOT higher.....I am not afraid to put my opinions out there, and D.o.D doesn't like me.....clearly.

Which is why he comes into threads in a classless manner and shoots the messenger with dribble......and then ducks for cover, never actually participating in the thread other than to make fun of the thread starter.

Which is pretty similar to something I used to do in D&D and then got reprimanded for it.....and rightly so.

I never understand why people have to come into threads and start crap...if you don't like a poster or thread...don't come into it.

    SHEESH !!

Wow, did you know that Larry Brown called Rudy T one of the best basketball minds he had ever met?

Who was the last US coach to win an Olympic medal?

    Oh yeah...JVG...NOT !

If JVG had not bought those Red Rowdy tickets, the fans would probably be calling for his head...just like last year.

Well at least the smart ones would be.....

I like them both, but I think JVG is a better Coach. Rudy is a much better scout for talent IMO. We always seemed to pull some real quality guys in on those 10 day contracts that no one wanted, and Rudy got a lot out of his 2nd round draft picks.

As a coach though, I think JVG is very good.
