Does Hakeem have some kind of mental problem? He seems to go through periods as a normal, well-adjusted human being. But then he also seems to go through periods of paranoia.
WE NEED TO SETTLE THIS ON THE BASKETBALL COURT!!! THE TORONTO RAPTORS WILL NEVER WIN ANTOHER GAME AGAINST THE HOUSTON ROCKETS WHILE HAKEEM THE DREAM OLAJUWON IS IN ONE OF THIER UNIFORMS!!!
Ask some people in the know about then Akeems days at UofH. You might be surprised and realize how wrong you are about your hero. Old School
Damn, Freak. Can't get one past you. Seems like my diabolic scheme to convince people that Hakeem gave a **** about me has completely backfired in my completely ordinary, not-at-all famous face. Oh the horror of it all, what ever shall I do? In case you can't tell, I'm being sarcastic But Simpson's quotes aside, obviously Olajuwon doesn't care for my respect, or anyone else's in Houston, or else he wouldn't be saying these things when they no longer have any bearing on on either team's situation. I used the qualifier "seems" (you can read it above quite clearly) to try to give the image that it seems (stay with me on this one) as if Hakeem does know me, and is making all the exact right moves possible to lose all the respect I have accumulated over time for the guy (and contrary to what I would guess you are thinking right now, it was a LOT). This was my attempt (apparently poor attempt, since you obviously missed the point) for me to voice my opinion of how Dream seems to be making all the WRONG moves these past couple of years.
Why on earth bring it up again... I have defended Hakeem all along but geez Dream, just shut up would ya...
Dream made a good point on bad decision making on the Rockets part. I mean I'm sure he wasn't happy about scrubs like Brent Price or not drafting Rashard Lewis. I'm sure he didn't like Cato. I'd be pissed too if I knew Cato got more minutes than me.
This is my first post in a month and all I have to say is F*** Hakeem . He was the best Rocket to ever suit up , but if he wants to act like a chicken **** then screw him. If Hakeem wanted to be a Rocket then he would be a Rocket... period..
If your name is Hakeem Olajuwon, and this dipsh!t Kelvin Cato is getting more minutes than you are, then you've got a right to be pissed. At yourself. If Cato is doing something that you aren't, then you're doing something wrong. If you're Hakeem Olajuwon, of course... All Hakeem had to do was stop acting like a whiney old biatch and show Cato who was boss. Did he do that? Only for half a season. Half of a heavily injured season, to boot. The Rockets fu*ked up with Cato's contract. Hakeem knows that. Everyone does. But we get what we pay for... And all Hakeem had to do was make an effort for the whole season, without pointing at Cato and saying "Well, this guy isn't trying, and he's getting megabucks, so why should I?" He failed to step up last season, so we moved on. And now he's making emotional accusations that it was a conspiracy against him... Pathetic course of action for a once-was-a-hero to take.
believed Hakeem's injury was real in '91 or was it '92. It was blown out of proportion by Steve Patterson reading the party line to Houston Media. They shopped Hakeem, and if Charlie Thomas had not been so greedy we probably would have lost him. Luckily for us Thomas sold the team to Les Alexander. Hakeem had been underpaid for a long time. As far as temper-I remember when Hakeem was young, he was prone to get into fights. Does anyone remember the incident where hepunched a young man in a convenience store?? At one time I think a video tape existed. This happened in '82 or '83 at a Stop and Go on Cullen which has since been torn down. I still like Hakeem and wish he was still a Rocket in my heart, but we would still be in a slump if he was here. He should have retired in Houston. I wish he would not make the public media statements. It makes him look bad.
I'm not going to comment much about this, but I'm not surprised that he (Olajuwon) said this. In regards to being upset about Cato getting his minutes, it's hard to play when you are averaging 50 games played in the past 2 seasons like Olajuwon did. Funny how he always forgets about himself being injury-prone.
Dream, No matter what, I always thought you embodied CLASS. For you to take this parting shot taints an image that few pro athletes ever enjoyed. ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT!! And the timing of your remarks (aka "piling on") was even more classless. It's not a matter of who was right and who was wrong in your not re-signing with Rockets. There was no right or wrong, only differing opinions. It's better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. Sadly, Dallas Rocket
I was just a little drunk and felt like razing people with my earlier statements. I hope I didn't get anyone too mad. To make my position clear, even though things look implied, I only mean it word for word: there are other things in life that you can judge class by, not just hoops business. As for the DUI thing, I am not a source of fact...I did not say I know everything...but hell, it was in the papers and the news...and thanks Jeff, for clearing it up, because obviously the clarification was not as widely publicized as the incident. PS. I don't think Rudy should be fired and I don't give a damn about my post count. Who ever said that...your assumptions are wrong. PPS. Hakeem is not my hero
Ahhhhh...and I have some land near Pasadena that you might be interested in. Rule #1: Don't drink and post. Old School
Yeah, Rudy looked real sober and coherent in those mug shots. Must have been the lighting. Just about everything the Dream said in that article was right, and you all know it. The Rockets were not really interested in bringing him back this year, as stupid as that was for a number of reasons, and made him an obviously below-market offer, very much like Drayton did when Darryl Kile left. All the 'Rockets Insiders' on this board even said that, when you get all the way to the bottom of it, the Rockets did want to move on and Hakeem "didn't fit in." So if you want to argue about Hakeem's latest comments, the only real argument is whether he should have just kept his mouth shut. Because most of what he says is true and has been borne out by the events of this season. Glen F'ing Rice for 3 years?! To use one of Mobley's terms, and i love it, how r****ded is that?
Just to clear this up: the Astros' offer to Kile was actually MORE than Colorado's, when you factor in taxes. It was an EXTREMELY fair offer. He is not called "Traitor" for nothing. That is all.
Rudy sounds really, really down...check out the audio clips over at www.dothereview.com i love checking out these audio clips after games especially if i missed a game and don't know what happen and to hear it for myself. Rudy sounds devestated...i am too somewhat, but i still believe in this team and will wait this out.......i am not a bandwagoner!
Hakeem was right. He's the one with class, if someone treated you like dirt after you did so much for them, how would you feel? Hakeem might not have done a favor for the rockets, but he put Houston on the basketball map. He is the reason i became a rocket fan. He coined the phrase clutch city. Lets face it, without him, would there even be a clucthcity.net? Of course not. If hakeem always was a class act and never lied, there is no reason that he would start lying now. We could really use his presence in the middle. We screwed up big time by not signing him. And how much class does this organization have? We sign peeps, telling them they have real potential, and let them go? We promise houston born high school basketball superstars that we are gonna pick them, but later fail to live up to their promise three straight times breaking his heart and making him cry! No, this organization has no class. Its all a business. The only reason the rockets arent bad mouthing hakeem is becasue if they do, out of the 8000 peeps who actually still go to rox games 4000 will stop going. he still commands that kind of respect in this city. We all know that what hakeem was saying is true, and we shouldnt cap on him for saying the f*&^ing truth.
Hakeem's problem was that he couldn't age gracefully. One must accept limitations due to age, but Hakeem still wanted the offense to go through 'the big man'. He took that as disrespect...too bad.
Hakeem didn't leave. He was unwanted. Half the fans said he should retire, half said he should stay. When that happens to you after delivering 2 championships, which, mind you, would've been 4 or 5 if it was another organization, you just don't feel wanted. He wasn't wanted. You know that it's true. He wasn't wanted by the Houston Rockets. Don't give me that classless trash. Steve Francis has his reasons for being "classless" by leaving Vancouver. Do YOU consider him classless? Vancouver was stupid, and so was Houston. FYI, there's no doubt in my mind that we would be a better team if we had Hakeem instead of Willis and/or KT. NO DOUBT.
