Rudy will take the Portland job, I can feel it. His specialty is managing egos. With a talented, veteran team like Portland, his coaching skills will be more evident. Unless Portland decides to rebuild and just lets Wallace walk ofcourse. Maybe the Bulls? Sure, they're young, but they've already been through the tough defensive minded coach. I believe a team needs to experience multiple coaching styles to become succesful. Up to now, these Bulls have only had the Bill Cartwright type approach. Rudy T would really get their attention, and they're not really that young. Rose, Pippen, Donyell Marshall, and Kendal Gill are all veterans, while Chandler, Curry and Crawford will be in their 3rd/4th seasons.
Why can't the US Olympic committee just name him Soup Commander for all upcoming International basketball competitions? Permanent National team coach. That's what he is good at.
If Dream could leave the Rockets org. then it should be no surprise if Rudy leaves to coach elsewhere.
I would be very surprised if Rudy found the Magic job to be desireable. The problem with Orlando is in their GM and scouting. In past drafts, they passed up players who eventually demonstrated talent, and instead drafted players who have not lived up to the hype. Also, they signed Grant Hill, but Hill's career is history with his injuries. When their low-talent team started the season with a 1 and 10 record, Doc got fired, but he was a scapegoat - it wasn't (entirely) his fault that he got stuck with a talentless team. I don't think Rudy would envy a coaching position where he could be an obvious scapegoat for a poor GM. (NOTE: my references above to a lack of talent do not apply to T-Mac) -- droxford
would that make you a Rudy Only Fan of that team? you have plenty of "single player/coach fan" mentors from which to learn from on this site, you know. you better not disappoint!
And he'll replace Don Chaney again! Imagine how it would feel to be replaced at your job by the same guy twice!!
I predict he will coach suns. The suns are about to can Johnson, and I bet Rudy sees Amare as the closest thing to a young hakeem. Plus marbury can be his francis. Plus its warm, and stuff.
plus after a suns game last year, rudy went up to amare after the game and hugged him like a gay lover (not that theres anything wrong with that) other than it was the opposing team
sure Rudy has a special relationship to Houston and the Rockets, but at the end of the day he is A COACH so of course he will coach somewhere else, and i hope he does
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/story/139181p-123614c.html Second opinion on Doc Shortly after firing Doc Rivers and putting Johnny Davis in his spot to serve out the season, the Magic started their search for a new coach. According to people close to Rudy Tomjanovich, the Magic reached out to the ex-Rockets coach about the position. Tomjanovich stepped down in Houston in May after missing the final 17 games of the season because bladder cancer. His title with the team now is "talent evaluator," basically an emeritus position for his 33 years with the organization. He and his doctors announced last month that he is cancer-free. Does he want to get back in? Probably, but maybe not in Orlando, where there has to be a roster shakeup. "Every coach runs out of time," said one Eastern Conference GM, "and Doc truly had the deck stacked against him, personnel-wise." Rivers has to take the blame for some of the draft picks and personnel moves, and he didn't always help his own cause on the sidelines, from a Xs and Os and in-game adjustment standpoint. But he'll be at the top of a lot of coaching lists among GMs because he gets his teams to play hard and is among the best coaches when it comes to handling the media. When Dominique Wilkins emerges as the new basketball honcho in Atlanta, we can definitely see Rivers coaching the Hawks. He ranks as one of that franchise's most popular players. If Dave Checketts were still running the Garden, the Knicks would be introducing Rivers as their new coach today. But as long as James Dolan places greater importance in team harmony over winning, we're stuck with the status quo.
