This was amazing. This is how you do a speech. It takes a coach who can speak like that to get a team to perform at its best. What an amazing guy.
Are there any other clips of other people talking about/with/to him? I'm just getting ready to watch his speech and don't want to miss anything. Just reading about the old days has put me half-assed in tears already.
Oh ****. That was a classy guy giving a classy speech. I have other thoughts but I'm sitting here thinking "did I miss him say anything about Horry?" Oh hell no. That was perfect at the end. "He belongs here." Any video of the introduction by Calvin and Hakeem? I missed it all so I'm catching up now.
Damn, that's how it's done. What a great voice of basketball and just a great American in the best sense of that word. Impressions: * As others have said, loved how he inserted Horry. * Surprised he didn't say much about his own NBA playing career, which was impressive. * Hakeem looks amazing. Like he's going to have a 600-year yoda-type life ahead. * The spirituality mention from Rudy was a very nice gesture. * Near the end, ... Spoiler Lord I want to thank you for my Smokin' Hot Wife.
Well said! I developed a killer bankshot watching Rudy T. Even on my off days I could use the bank to make a basket. It's a loss art in today's game and he was absolute master. I still curse Kermit Washington for that punch, almost killed him, but he came back. He truly has the "Heart of a Champion".
Great point on that bankshot! I had several years at his wonderful summer bball camp. He ran it @ Blinn College, I think, in Brenham, TX, along with Sam Jones. Both those dudes could bank all day long. Rudy was so good with us kids and amazingly gracious with his time. He and I had a long game of OUT once (HORSE but more efficient), and he eventually bankshotted me to death.
He's deserved to be in for so long, it's nice that he also got recognized alongside Duncan, Garnett, and Kobe. I'm sure there's a lot of people who saw his speech and learned about him a little while they were waiting for the Duncan and Kobe enshrinements.
They had talent, heart, desire and pure will to win championships. They didn't back down or feel subconsciously intimidated by any other team in the league.
Let alone, I felt he had the best speech too. He absolutely nailed some light humor, sincere humility, gave love to all the members of the team, even made the Dream tear up. I didn't cry, I was cutting onions during the speech. F'n onions.
