Free Post!!! Whoopeeee ------------------ In order to be a success in life, you need 2 things: 1. Don't tell everything you know.
I don't know this caveman, but if he really thinks Rudy sucks as a coach,he most like'ly still thinks the wheel was a bad idea too ------------------
Whoa! In checking this thread out for the second time, I decided to make note of the number of Caveman's posts. Only 255!! I would have sworn it was ten times that many just last season. Kinda like some women... You've only been here how long?? ------------------
This year's Dream Team only proved that basketball is a TEAM sport. It won't be too long before experienced national teams that play together on a regular basis will beat NBA all-star teams that are thrown together at the last minute. Rudy did the best he could with the situation he had. Oh yeah, Caveman- up yours! ------------------
I'm not quite as sure as the rest of you. His post was crude and malicious, but at the same time, there might be a kernel of truth. In my opinion, Rudy is not a great X's and O's coach (see Jerry Sloan). He seems a "player's coach." The US team should NOT have been as threatened as they were. One *could* claim that our players were lazy, etc... but they didn't seem any more lazy than previous dream teams, which one much easier. The quality of competition abroad has not increased that much... otherwise, they would be playing over here, where the money is. I don't think Tomjanavich can escape all blame. ------------------ Shandon Anderson rocks. The lottery sucks. Playoffs 2001.
Yeah, but Caveman still sucks!! ------------------ Ugh, Another Rockets off-season....I'm gonna need a keg of Pepto-Bismol.
OK, I have to go on a RANT here... Look, tempers flared in those games (Lithuania and France) because our opposition was absolutely pounding us and a lot of it was not being called against them. I guess they were playing by the old adage of “the refs aren’t gong to throw out the entire team”. (I think they were watching Utah Jazz tapes) I know, I know, the fouls were about even on the stat sheet but if you had watched the game you would have seen a lot of hard fouls that didn’t get called. I guess the refs just got tired of blowing their whistles. Apparently not only do we hold the Dream Team to a higher standard, and rightfully so due to their talent, but the refs obviously hold us to a higher standard. This type of play obviously frustrated both the coaches and the players because one of their primary unsaid goals was to NOT GET HURT as well as bring home the Gold in blowout fashion. Think how much getting hurt in the Olympics would cost them. How would that look when they came back to play for the season? How would that look for Rudy if one of those stars got hurt? Sure anything can happen on the court but it was obvious they were not going to put themselves in a position to get hurt. For example diving for loose balls. This allowed the other teams to use that against us. If you don’t fight back then the other guys are going to just keep on hitting you harder. I agree with those that say there were a few members on that team that should have kept there mouths shut and those that should have played with a little more sportsmanship. There wasn’t a lot of class displayed by some of our younger players, nor some of our coaches. But do you think that those coaches, namely Larry Brown and Rudy are gong to simply let the refs not call the hard fouls (some of which looked like they were trying to injure our players). No way they are going to just take it and not say a word. I would be cursing at the ref's also. I am not trying to defend, persuade or blame anyone. Just remember that it is also the ref’s responsibility to keep control of the game and I feel that they did a piss poor job of doing that. ------------------
