My thought exactly!! I hope he will be in remission after this treatment. Although the cancer is likely to come back,I wish he will be in remission and does not require more treatment as long as possible. My best wishes for Rudy!
Sad day for me. Maybe the Rockets will hang one of Rudy's suits and ties from the rafters alongside his jersey. Rudy, basketball players are flesh and blood but certain men stand out above the rest. Hakeem was the heart of the Rockets but you will always be the soul. God bless!
This is my worst day as a Rocket fan. Hakeem being traded is a sunny walk in the park compared to this.
The Rockets really need to find a way to honor Rudy as a coach. He already has his number hanging in the rafters. They need to think of something though...perhaps naming the bars in the new stadium after him?
Van gundy is a mistake. Brown would be a nice addition. Going into a new stadium they need a big name. What about Larry Bird Or Clyde with Hakeem and Mike young as asst coaches. Lets bring the fun back to Houston
Well well, looks like a lot of us 'Rudy bashers' were right. Rudy is a superb person and I hope he remains involved for PR value if nothing else but it was clearly time for a change. We all, of course, pray his health will improve. As to his replacement I sincerely hope we can get Brown. He has more experience with young player developement than JVG and would be able to use SF to his utmost. Also I don't think the players would respect a guy best known for getting dragged around the court during a brawl. I'm not real high on Lucas either. He also appears to be a super guy but its his happy relationship with our guards that makes me worry. Will he be willing to discipline these guys that consider him a friend? Regardless there are some very important issues to consider. The new coach must blend the talent we have into a cohesive unit. The young kids (EG, Boki, Yao) must be given tutors capable of devoloping their talent, the starters need discipline and he must absolutely be able to relate to Yao. If Yao gets unhappy we're going to have problems real quick. The new head coach will be judged as much on the staff he brings in as what kind of offense and defense he wants to run. We are an extremely inexperienced team and need coaching in the worst way. Its a new day Rocket's fans. Lets vow to support whomever they bring in and give him at least until the all star break before we start calling for his head.
I believe that Dun is tied up for a few more years.. Hey, how about Coach K? (joking, if he were going to leave Duke he'd have done so by now. Besides his health isn't all that great either.)
This is a sad ,sad day in Rockets history. I know many of you are happy to see Rudy leave, but I am certainly not. Rudy has been an icon in Houston sports, if not as big as Hakeem. I want the Rockets to start winning, but with the current team they have. Rudy has helped this team progress with the players mgmt. has brought in, and has done a pretty damn good job with it. I understand his health issues and the concern that he may not be able to give his all to the team for a while, but I strongly believe that Rudy should not be forced to step down as coach. Cod
um, ooops, I could be wrong... Guess he was fired on the 9th huh... He would be an interesting choice...
Me and you actually agree on something. Rudy never adjusted to the game, but as long as he had Hakeem it didn't matter. I started to wonder about Rudy during the strike yr when the Rockets had the most double digit losses of any playoff team. Thats when the alarm started going off for me about Rudy as a coach. Next , the rebuilding was going to give him some growing room, but 3 straight top 10 picks including the number 1,2 and 7 picks only sent this team back into the lotto land without a pick. Basically, it was time to move on. Unlike Silas who got the raw end of it, i think Rudy was given a whole lot of room. Most will like to see Brown of Van Gundy, but I would prefer Jim Cleamons. I kind of dread seeing 88 pt games again. If this team is going to be boring, they at least have to win to bring people to the arena. Van Gundy led teams were scoring 90 ppg even before the new zone rules.
I don't know if this article has been posted yet, but i didn't feel like reading through 6 pages of posts to find out! http://www.nypost.com/sports/35826.htm
Thanks Just B, hadn't read that yet. Thats a load off my mind. You'll have to sell me on Cleamons LBZ, I don't know much about him other than the fact he backed up Phil in the playoffs. Would he bring in the triangle?
