I can't believe that Rudy Gay has led the Griz to the #3 seed in the West with Z-Bo being out this whole time while the Rockets continue to toil away in mediocrity...smh, just smh.

No matter what company line the Rox put out to spin the 2006 draft, that trade will always be questioned. But hey, its spilled milk.

I love it. Last month, Keith Van Horn - oh I mean Rudy Gay - throws together a string of characteristic 8-22 performances - Kwame appears on the back of a milk carton, since he disappears.

Then the Grizzlies hit an easy stretch in their schedule, the other teams around them start to slump, Rudy Gay has some better games, Marc Gasol gets hot....and VOILA Kwame is back with "THE TEBOW DEFENSE" - Van Horn...errr, I mean, Rudy Gay just wins.

He's 4 of 7...sample size much? edit: Or should we concede that Dwight Howard is the best clutch shooter in the league (2-3, the numbers don't lie!)

If he misses one shot he goes from the very best to 50th percentile.

When you expand the clutch rating a bit he drops right back down to the middle.

Actually you can infer some rather negative things from his comparative lack of clutch shooting attempts. It's not like Durant et al are in so many more clutch situations than Gay. Hell Carmelo has take over twice as many despite being injured for large swathes of the season.

Is he just kind of a giant wuss when the game is on the line?

Sam, you just don't get it. Please understand the first 47 1/2 minutes don't matter at all and it's just the final 30 seconds that count since this is the only way you can sanely equalize the basketball ability of Rudy Gay with Kevin Durant.

If you aren't willing to go live on Planet Gay, don't debate this because earthbound logic doesn't apply there.

For the same reason that Dwight Howard is nails.

What I'm asking is why, when the pressure's on, Rudy Gay....passes.

This is a giant pile of dung.. The dude totally cherrypicked the datasets and is taking tiny sample sizes, (like 2/3 shots a year) and aggregating them across years to make them look more relevant, and then excising outliers.

See for yourself, and congratulate last year's Mr. Clutch, BROOK LOPEZ, thoguh arguably it's MO WILLIAMS (2-2 = he is perfect):

EDIT: Also worth noting, Rudy Gay's lifetime 4/7 is pretty much entirely the product of him being 3/4 last year. Fun with tiny samples!

But then if we expand the query to last 24 seconds, the results are totally different.

Not so fast my friend - if we're going to use these bogus stats, let's use them, and apply a dose of your sh-t logic. The fact that Kevin Durant, Carmelo, Kobe and others are more willing to actually take game winning shots, whereas rudy only has 7 attempts in, what, 6 years....is indicative of the fact that he is a pants-urinating baby who folds in the clutch.

Are people still seriously comparing Rudy Gay to Kevin Durant? It's silly. Rudy Gay and James Harden is the real debate.

I don’t think the "extreme clutch" thing is very important, but I think crunch time in general is. If you expand crunch time a bit and weed out the players that have taken at a minimum 15 crunch time shots this season, you can’t deny that it’s something Rudy Gay is really good at. http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/plus/shot_finder.cgi?request=1&player_id=&match=single&year_id=2012&is_playoffs=N&team_id=&opp_id=&game_num_min=0&game_num_max=99&game_month=&game_location=&game_result=&shot_pts=&is_make=&shot_type=&shot_distance_min=&shot_distance_max=&q4=Y&q5=Y&time_remain_minutes=2&time_remain_seconds=0&time_remain_comp=le&margin_min=-5&margin_max=5&c1stat=fga&c1comp=ge&c1val=15&c2stat=&c2comp=ge&c2val=&c3stat=&c3comp=ge&c3val=&order_by=fg_pct

Look, only ‘what’ is delusional enough to use this as evidence that Rudy Gay is better than Durant, but the fact is, when the game is on the line in crunch time, Rudy Gay can create his own shot and can make it more than half the time. Considering the mess of an offense McFail has been running for us, you know that would have been a useful skillset at the end of some of these tough losses lately. Unsurprisingly enough, Kevin Martin has made 3/18 crunch time shots compared to Rudy Gay’s 12/21. Do you still think Martin and Gay are close like you argued earlier in the thread?

Or you could just use the 82games.com "clutch" rating, which is a much better indicator since it takes into account getting to the line...guess what you'll find.

    http://www.82games.com/1112/CSORT11.HTM

Gay's not even remotely elite when it comes to producing points at end of games. He's down with DJ Augustin and Kyle Lowry, with Kevin Martin not too far behind.

and that still shows durant's lack of clutch. 40 attempts and he makes 16 shots and gets bailed out another 20 times. Ridiculous.

while gay makes over half of his shots in that same time frame. But Rudy is the chucker? smdh.

Durant is overrated, a product of officiating. Rudy knows he can't get those calls so he doesn't even try.

Right, cause every single trip to the line just HAS to be a bailout, right?
