What are you trying to say. Every school is going to have busts and good pros. In fact with Ray Allen, Rip Hamilton, and Ben Gordon as alums, UCONN seems to have produced more than their fair share of NBA talent.
Khalid and Voskuhl were both drafted in the second round so they didn't have great expectations. Donyell Marshall is probably the closest thing to a UConn bust though he's still in the league. Rudy Gay will make people eat their words just like Charlie V. The NBA game suits his style much better.
Same people that took Kwame Brown, Kenyon Martin, Kandi, Joe Smith, Glenn Robinson first. Some years you have KMart as the #1 overall pick, some years you have Tim Duncan and Lebron.
donyell marshall wasn't exactly a bust, but a bit disappointing for the 5th pick in the draft. worse case scenario I see for rudy gay is a derrick mckey type player. long, reasonably athletic, shoots the ball well, can create a little, but better suited for filling a role than leading.
For 1st roudn pick we should pick 1. Brandon Roy 2. JJ Redick Gay is a "potential" player who does not have the shot range. Foye will be short. Head is that height, we need a shooting guard who is taller. Carney like Gay is "potential" player. Both Marcus Williams and Ronnie Brewer are point guards, which we do not need after Alston and Head. Mardy Collins is decent player, but not a proven shooter. Now i realize Redick a bit further down (like 12-14), well then trade down a bit and get a 2nd roudn pick next year or something. What the Rockets need next year is shooters. People who can hit open shots. And there are few if any good shooters on the free agent market this summer other than peja
Do you mean shot from long range? And if so I am tempted to ask - how many games of Rudy Gay have you seen? FWIW, he shot 38% in college from 3-point range (0.467 his first year). But I will wait for your answer on the initial question. --------- On a different note, I found some sweet Rudy Gay's videos http://youtube.com/watch?search=rudy+gay&v=SX-CP1wN1-M http://youtube.com/watch?v=Cis927Rkh_o&search=rudy gay
I agree. If I had to add two other players I would add Noah (if he declares) and Rodney Carney. Pick value is important. Currently, it is really hard to see how any one of these players stick out more than another. So if the Rockets are really enamored with one, they should take him in their spot, but if not, it may be a good opportunity to trade down ever so slightly and pick up some extra value. Alternatively, there may be an opportunity to trade up cheaply to add some perceived value as well. If you really liked 2 players maybe a team like Chicago would trade their 2nd pick to you cheaply (say for a future first round pick and trade exception...something like that). Just think value may be hard to gauge in this draft, because it isn't clear where the true all-star or near all-star level talent lies.
Rudy Gay can play basketball. But He is post up player from what I have seen (about 10 UConn Games this year). He will be great player, but not what the Rockets need. He's more of a SF not a SG. As opposed to his shot. I cant really remember too many Big 3's that Gay Took other than their Win over Indiana last year. All those big shots seemed to be taken by M. Williams and R. Anderson. Even Denham Brown took some of those pressure shots in the NCAA Tournament. As opposed to his shooting percentage, maybe over his career he has a 39% but last year he was only 31.8%. Can that improve potentially, but that is also at the College 3-point line. I don't want to wait half the season for him to be able to sometimes hit the NBA 3 consistently. Also He less than 30 3-pt shots both of the last two years!! I realize UConn had other shooters to shoot 3, like Anderson, but after that asking him to hit trey's at a constant percentage in the pros immediately is a stretch. Brandon Roy is a much better fit for the Rockets (or even Redick). If we are high in enough to draft Gay, we could draft him and use him as trade bait. But drafting him when he doesn't fit into the team, meaning Van Gundy will not probably play him too much is not beneficial for the Rockets.
Carney is in no way a "potential" player like Rudy Gay. 1) Rudy Gay is 19 years old. 2) Carney is 22 years old. Carney has the potential to be a good NBA player. Gay has the potential to be a great NBA player.
