But why would Phoenix give up their pick only to trade back for it? Also, the James Jones trade is complete I think. How would the Blazers send Fernandez and Frye/Francis to Phoenix in a seperate deal?
Wasn't that one already out in the open, hence the Fernandez discussion at the beginning of the clip? and why would the Knicks trade have to be finalized first?
The Knicks trade has to be completed so Phoenix can receive a trade exception from New York, which they would then use to acquire James Jones without having to send back any contracts. Pritchard obviously can't talk about the Phoenix deal until it can officially be completed.
Why would Pritchard have to keep quiet on Fernandez though? Please excuse me if I missed something in your explanation.
That would make sense, but the trade exception created in that trade should only be about 500 grand (19.43 mill - 18.93 mill), not the near three million that the James Jones contract would require.
As of now, Phoenix technically still holds the draft rights to Fernandez. They haven't traded him to Portland yet. Once Portland receieves the trade exception from New York, THEN Phoenix can officially trade Fernandez along with James Jones to Portland for cash and a trade exception.
i would hate to see battier go but we could use a Rudi Fernandez....so since Port is going to buy out Francis, is there a shot he is coming to HOUston?
All of this overexcitement about Rudy is just that.... I firmly believe the crap about Rudy Fernandez being "our" guy all along is simply a Rockets PR Spin job that was taken hook, line and sinker by Feigen and the rest of a very tired, disappointed press corp last night. Our guy was Morris Almond. With all of our various PG's and now Mike James, going for a guy who might not make it to the states for another year over the 3rd leading scorer in the entire country.... C'mon you guys, what the hell are you smoking? Our guy was Morris, and Morey is too chicken-sh*t to admit that he got F'd by the Sixers, Blazers, Suns and Jazz all at the exact moment he was preparing to bask in his glory. Well, now he's basking alright, in questions and doubts, (all of them unanswered BTW) and I think getting excited about trades that should have happened last night is a waste of time. My son, who actually watched the entire Draft for the first time in his young life, was so shocked that he actually pledged to support the Blazers rather than the ROX because they at least have a GM willing to spend money and make moves rather than crunch stats!!!!! Morey is an idiot and we will be living with the legacy of JVG ball... (i.e No player development) for another 5 years, or until we magically find ourselves back in the lottery again (something that might happen rather quickly if T-Mac goes down again!!!). Rudy was NOT the guy we were after!!!!
He wasn't quiet on Fernandez. He talked all about him at the beginning of the clip. The Fernandez trade is already on the transaction log on NBA.com. http://www.nba.com/transactions/current_month_transactions.html
I haven't checked the numbers yet. But this article seems explain how the Blazers receive a trade exception large enough to absorb Jones' contract. http://www.blazersedge.com/story/2007/6/29/7560/55490
Rockets-R-Us, you're assuming morey was intelligent enough to know that morris almond was a better pick than rudy fernandez. be careful...
Of course if Almond fell into our lap, we might have traded him to the Pacers for Diogu. The Pacers wanted to get into the first round to grab Almond.
OK, than most likely the Fernandez for cash portion of the trade has already been completed. Just the James Jones for trade exception portion of the deal isn't done yet. That's why Pritchard can't talk about James Jones, but he can talk about Fernandez.
More than likely, since the Blazers intend to buy out Steve Francis (or so it is rumored), IMO they will try to package a solid young prospect with SF and make us eat the contract we gave Steve in the first place. Would they send us LaMarcus Aldridge or Channing Frye? We obviously passed on Josh McRoberts so I doubt he would be included. I'm grasping at straws here. Help me!
That makes a lot of since, but I just don't see where this exception is coming from. I read the article you posted and it doesn't really explain it.
Verse - You're right. My bad. I'll try not to make any more assumptions about Morey's alleged genius. See the "Bet on our picks" thread I just started....
am I wrong? everyone is clamoring for Frye... but since he was just traded, can't he only be traded by himself?
Yeah, I'm pretty sure he has to be traded by himself. However, it could be two simultaneous trades like Pryz and Fernandez for Battier and Rafer for Frye.
