I think Ariza was just pissed because they were down by 30. Still though, not a reason to do that to somebody.
Which is why context has to be taken into consideration...... Ariza should be suspended for however many games Rudy is out..... DD
You didn't need to fix anything. I never said Ariza was Bruce Bowen. Bowen has honed his skills and is a master. But I've seen Ariza make several dirty frustration plays in his career. He is a dirty player. This isn't his first wild hack at somebody.
while he was trying to make the block, when you swing that hard, at a guy on a breakaway, in a 30 point game, everything that happens after that is on you. "oops, sorry i leveled you and gave you a concussion and had you carted out on a stretcher" doesn't really work. definitely needs a couple of games.
A real dirty play would have been a blatant shove in the back or clothes-lining the guy. Ariza made a conscious effort to make a play on the ball and unfortunately got alot of Rudy also. I'm not saying I don't feel bad for Rudy, but I'm not ready to call Ariza dirty for trying to make a hustle play even when the game was out of reach. Dude was showing he still cared about the game. Frustrated? Sure. Blatantly dirty with intent to purposely hurt someone? I don't think so IMO.
I don't even think it was worthy of a flagrant two. You don't base the foul on how hard a guy lands. You base it on the play that the defender made.
Watch the replay, he goes HARD with his swipe, and THROUGH Rudy's head. It was clearly a Flagrant 2....... Anyone defending him is NUTS.....these are NBA players, they know EXACTLY what they are doing. Ariza knew, and he made a frustration foul......he should be suspended. DD

Nearly every time a thread on a particular flagrant foul comes up, there are always at least a couple of people who don't get it. This one is no different. I'll repeat: This is NOT the first time Ariza has swung hard in frustration. I think from now on, the NBA may view it as a pattern for him. This is about strike 4.
You must be just as stupid as Barkley with that comment, Rudy was in mid air, Ariza is throwing a haymaker while Rudy is defenseless in the air, it doesn't take a genius to know that he's going to do 360s
just saw it on Fox Sports The Final Score. OUCH. btw, ODOM did infact come off the bench during the shoving match.
That was clearly a flagrant foul. Ariza had no chance of stopping rudy. Rudy was taking flight and Ariza swung his arm at Rudy's head.
Man, I keep watching that video (first time I've seen it) and I just don't see where some of you are so sure it's a definite flagrant 2. Clearly he took a hard swipe, but it just seems like a frustration swipe at the ball. Careless enough and hard enough for a flagrant, I agree, but I don't know that I'd call it a 2.
My heart goes out for Rudy and kudos for the impassioned pleas for Ariza's head but I still stand by my comments. Whateva.
GOING FOR THE BALL MY ARSE !!! He is going for his head.....the ball is a lot higher and Ariza is not reaching UP. DD
