I think it'll be Roy at PG if he heads over. Otherwise if money is the deciding factor then an ANTA top up could beat out those Euro offers.
No please, Rafer is better, man... Pure point guard, loves to distribute the ball and can be a X factor in a game. Maybe just one thing that he lacks is shot...
Well, going back to the idea of scola-stealing Fernandez... If he'd come here as a 2 (or even as a combo guard), it would be worth a good look. To this day, I firmly believe that V-Span would have panned out as a John Starks type 2-guard but was too overwhelmed trying to take on PG responsibilities (made worse, of course, because JVG is demanding on his points with his system). Yeah, something worth noting. I like Brooks and all, but Fernandez might be the next Ginobili. Who knows?
As for the original thought.... Brooks for Fernandez, that is a tough one.....it depends upon what the Rockets think of AB....they have had a year to look at him, but do they still believe in his upside? Brooks has proven he CAN play in the NBA, Fernandez has not...yet.... But it might be worth a look......still leaves us thin at PG though...and where does Fernandez get minutes? Behind Tmac and Battier? I still like Brooks....not sure I would do the deal. DD
Especially considering the value of the American dollar. Remember how we used to make fun of Canadian money? Well, now Canadian money is worth just as much as American and both are monopoly money in Europe. Man, living in Barcelona is awesome for a whole lot more than soccer. I lived in Barcelona for six months. I don't even like soccer and yet I dream of returning and living out the rest of my days there. It's one of the most beautiful cities in the world and the lifestyle is fantastic.
I don't know if I'd do that trade. Brooks has shown he can play. He has a lot of potential, but that can only take you so far. It's obvious he's still trying to take in the game. The verdict is still out on him. I think he can play a vital part in this team. I haven't seen a lot of Fernandez, so I can't be quick to pull the trigger. I still think AB has the skills to make a good PG in the near future. If you guys believe the rumors that he was the deal breaker for the Artest deal, then that alone tells you what the Rockets think of AB.
The closest comparison I can think of for Fernandez (who I've seen play in person 3-4 times) is a Brent Barry in his prime with more one-on-one ability off the dribble and getting to the basket. IMO, that is a lot better than what Brooks' ceiling looks to be right now....
He has shown flashes of being an NBA player and has not looked overmatched......we can not say the same about Rudy yet. DD
Fernandez would've been a top 5 pick if not for his contract situation. I'm not guaranteeing he's gonna be an All-Star in the league, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if he does end up one. You should check out his game on youtube...
I wanted him badly last year, still think he could be great......he was my pick for the Rockets pre draft..... I would still love to have him....but......maybe for some expirings if the Blazers don't want him over.... As I said, to me it is a toss up...Brooks or Fernandez......hard to say.....and honestly either way would be ok with me...but for now, I like Brooks potential at a position we are the MOST weak at... DD
Seriously, Dada? You have been in love with guys like Boki, Spanoulis and Dan friggin' Langhi but Fernandez needs to prove himself? Seriously? I mean, you know I like you, but seriously?
I said he needs to prove it in the NBA, I love Fernandez, he was my pick for the draft last year...... But I am not sure I would trade Brooks for him heads up, right now. Because Brooks has been in the NBA for a year, and has a smaller adjustment to make. Fernandez would still need to adjust to the NBA game. Look, if he comes...great..... DD
What has Brooks proven - that he can play in garbage time. Brooks is about the same level as Lucas III.
AB has shown very few flashes and has been overmatched plenty of times, which is why we got Bobby Jackson and buried AB on the bench. No GM in the NBA would take AB over Rudy (unless said GM was on drugs). It's not even close. At best, AB will be a backup PG. Fernandez has the potential to be an impact player. The Rockets would do this trade in an instant and Portland won't.
Paul Allen was in Spain recently and tried to persuade Fernandez to join the Blazers next season. Paul Allen even jokingly introduced himself to Fernandez's family as an advanced scout. It shows the Blazers value Fernandez highly. Trading Fernandez is a very unlikely scenario. But it seems Fernandez has his reservations to play in NBA both moneywise and playtime-wise.
