you guys are pretty dumb, the whole reason why he has to play in spain for 2 more years is because the buy out clause on the contract is VERY disproportional to his salary (salary is in thousands, buy out he'd have to pay is millions) NOT because he doesn't want to play for the twolvesso he'd basically be playing for free in the NBA if he were to play now, he stated that if it wasn't a top 3 pick he wouldn't be able to play right away financially. now all that being said, I think the kid will be a bust.
you're right, I'm just doing the preemptive strike before someone quotes my post and tells me to **** off since that seems to be the standard here. my bad.
Sorry, meh, but... ...Scola didn't avoid the Spurs merely by sitting out a year. The Spurs had to give up and trade his rights before he was free. Scola reached a "basic agreement" with the Rockets less than 24 hours after the club acquired his draft rights from San Antonio along with Jackie Butler for Vassilis Spanoulis and a 2009 second-round pick.
NBA_Rumors_NewsRT @NBAtipoffvia: Rubio's lawyers want to settle with Badalona so he can join the Wolves http://tinyurl.com/n49k9w Looks like Rubio might play in the states after all!
The analogy doesn't work. It's more like committing to a job, and then withdrawing that commitment after your employer commits its time and resources.
Wait, how is the NBA draft selection different from just an interview? When you go interview for a job, there are usually somethings that you say you desire such as location, pay, and the type of work you will do right? If you indicated you would want work from home and the company hires you while rejecting all other applicants and then tell you that you can't work from home, then it just doesn't make sense to work for that company just because they committed time and resource.
But even if he did that, he would have to RE-ENTER the draft after that year. It was in the ESPN article about Rubio yesterday. So, after that it is possible that the Lakers/Spurs are someone could grab him, but it is more likely that one of the lottery team will take the gamble again.
I can't wait till this punk bombs out in the NBA. He's an awful shooter, and has been getting by on all hype off a few highlight videos.
I never said it was a good idea. I just wanted people to know the exact rules, because so many think that somehow Minnesota loses its rights to Rubio if he decides to play in Europe for a while. They don't. So they don't care about Rubio's whining. My point was that Spurs was able to retain Scola's right for something like 5 years after he was drafted. Hence there really isn't any "time limit" on draft rights. It has nothing to do with him sitting out. He never did. The Spurs were forced to trade him because he was going to sign a long term deal in Europe that will keep him out of the NBA for eternity. So the Spurs, who didn't want to sign him, had to trade him or lose him as an asset.
He has been the most heavily overseas player since last year's olympic. I doubt teams who want him are basing it on some highlight videos. I don't think he will be a superstar since he is a little slow laterally but he should be solid.
