These rookies will enter the NBA next season, and I found it hilarious that they are pretty much the opposite of each other:

Rubio - Spaniard who can pass and defend, but struggle to shoot and score
Jimmer - New Yorker who can shoot and score from anywhere, but can't defend and is only ok on passing

I guess if you combine the two, you'll have a perfect young pg.

So, who will have more success in the NBA?

Needs a poll. My guess is Rubio though.

Rubio was much more highly touted entering the draft. I have been hearing his name for at least 7 years now. I am really excited to see what he can do.

He just seems like one of those who would be gold or a bust type guys. While Jimmer just seems solid.

IMO Jimmer's ceiling is a solid 6th man who comes off the bench and destroys the other team.

    "(insert team name)" killer

I'm high on Rubio, I really think he can be a solid starter for a championship team, but probably won't be in the Rose-Paul-Deron league.

I think shooting and scoring are easier skills to add to your game than defense and passing/vision.

    Rubio for now.

He's actually played against pro-level competition and done alright, and even shown some flashes of brilliance. If he played at the NCAA level, #1 pick, easily. He'd be almost a poor man's Pete Maravich, not quite as polish or blessed with that type of shooting skill. But he would've been a dominant player.

Rubio's hype is ridiculous. . . no way he can live up too it.
Not saying he won't be good .. . but that the hype is maddness

Agreed 100%, but I think some of the petals have fallen off the Rubio rose after his terrible year last season. The kid is 20 years old. He is probably going to have a rough first year in the NBA and people might call him a bust. He might take a few years to develop as point guards generally do.

Anyhow, I see his best case scenario is a J-Kidd type player. Great at all aspect of the game except shooting

They aren't exact opposites of each other, I'd say both of them are specialists on one end of the pg spectrum:

    1) Rubio
    Passing: Elite
    Defense: Average
    Shooting: Poor

    2) Fredette
    Passing: Average
    Defense: Poor
    Shooting: Elite

Who will have more success? I think Fredette will be more successful, shooters are a commodity in the NBA, and worst case for the Jimmer is he becomes the new Jason Terry: that "X" team killer off the bench. With Rubio, worst case is he becomes the next Conley JR, except with an even worse shot. Rubio sucked really hard in the Euro league, and I'm not sure how well he's gonna fare in the NBA if he couldn't even put up decent numbers in the less athletic Euro league.

I'm a Jimmer fan, I think he's more athletic than people give him credit for, his bball IQ is quite high and he knows how to balance scoring and passing. Honestly I think Jimmer good enough to become a secondary/third option on a championship calibre team.

If you're a shooter in the NBA, you'll always have a job...even if your skills eroded eons ago (see: Kyle Korver, Mike Bibby, etc.). If you're a shooter in the NBA with SOME athleticism like what Jimmer's shown during his workouts, you'll always have a role player job.

A player who seems to lack strength and conditioning, a mid range game, a long range game and can't play defense? Probably 3 seasons...

Rubio will get more of a chance to prove himself, and will get more minutes from the get-go, and will be afforded more time and mistakes to be made.

    So I choose rubio.

From what I saw of Rubio against USA, his defense is actually slightly better than average because he really has a good sense of the ball.

That being said his shooting has been universally godawful and to be honest I actually think Jimmer and Rubio both don't have very good bball IQs. Rubio in my opinion has an outstanding "feel" for the game and the way the offense should run that is not cerebral and it is why he still makes idiotic, blatant mistakes.

The kid is too weak to play NBA basketball.

Fallacious thinking mistakenly caused by the OP. Jimmer has decent passing and vision. I'm going to wait to see him in the NBA to judge that aspect of his game.

I know almost nothing about Rubio.

This is funny. The way you envisioned Rubio would have been in the NCAA, is how people describe Jimmer.

Was Telfair even 6 feet tall?

Rubio's categories mirror Rajon Rondo (with RR's defense being elite). Fredette's categories mirror Nash (with Nash's passing being elite).

It's hard to tell, but at this point, I'd go with Fredette.

But it also depends on which team they are selected for.

If Rubio was on a team like the Miami Heat, where he'd be the facilitator (aside from James), and he didn't have to be first option (Wade/James/Bosh), then he'd do well.

If Rubio was on a team like the Bulls, where everyone outside the PG can't really create their own shot, then he'd probably do...not so well.
