It shouldnt have come to that point if Yao stopped playing like a scrub Artest started scoring TMAC could play defense and voilet palmer knew how to officiate.
There is no way Roy could do them within 0.8 sec -- caught the ball, turned around and jumped up to release the ball. Moreover, the light was on when the ball was half way to the basketball. 0.8 sec is soooooooooooooooooo long
yao's shot was a continuation because of the foul. the clock stops when the ref blows the whistle. (dont they have some sensor thing that stops it) a 35 footer beat em... tip your hat to Roy. rockets had no business winning that game anyway.
I don't know if anyone else remembers in '96 when this almost exact same thing happened in Portland and it was in OT!!!! I think it was Sabonis that got the last second tip in that should not have counted and the real refs were on strike, it was back up refs that screwed us on that one!
totally unlucky for us. Though i'm still skeptical about whether or not roy got off the shot, i must say, a 35footer is still a pretty damn hard shot to make, let alone in the dieing seconds of the game. tmac carried us through this one and yao and ron had an off night, though i personally think that turnaround J by yao will give him a world of confidence for tmw's game. and for those who are questioning why yao was on the ball, its because he aws there to make the alley-oop pass a hard one. In all honesty, with 0.8 seconds left to go on the shot clock, EVERYONE would've assumed that they were going for a allley oop play, which is why it was smart to put yao on the inbound
This game shouldn't have been decided by this shot. The Rockets muffed several opportunities throughout the game. The Rockets handed this game to the Blazers. Blatant lack of execution on our part.
Did anyone notice Roy lift his pivot foot? I'm just pointing out this, because of the bickering over the clock. The NBA is a show and if you do not complain about these violations do not complain about technicalaties with the clock.
great shot by roy though if you want to get technical it shouldn't have counted. but the human element always allows some lag between when a ball is touched and when the clock is actually started. it kind of pisses me off, but its early in the season and im sure ill forget about this game soon enough.
For those of you complaining about the clock not starting on time at the 40 sec. mark; if the clock is 1 sec late, then Yao doesn't get his shot of in time. Later than 1 sec. and we don't even get to inbounds the ball. All in all, the time was in our favor. We just got beat by a very lucky 38 footer. I'll take my chances at that distance every time.
Short and sweet summary of the game. You have to live with the possible consequences when you don't take care of business. The league though should fine the Portland organization for their shoddy clock management.
Time stopped when he got fouled. The clock stopped right when the ref put his fist up. They got it right. My heart is bleeding!
I agree with some of you here, the game is over and the win is awarded to Portland. If we really wanted to win, we wouldnt be playing this bad, the game would have won much earlier if we played well, simple as that. Im still hurting real bad at the moment, it really feels like a big stab in my heart when that ball went in. anyway, i think its best we move on. no way the league will overturn the results in our favour. Yao and the rest of the team should start bucking up and play better. i'll take a 3-2 for this road trip. we're still a long way away from being a polished team. we still need time to build chemistry. remember, Rome wasnt build in a day. Oh, and i definitely agree we miss Batmans defense, i believe he will be the difference when he comes back healthy. we aint gonna stick until the glueman comes in. GO ROCKETS!!!
So basically roy caught the ball turned around and shot and the ball was halfway through the air before the 0.8 ended because thats when the red lights came on on the backboard...amazingg
You know damn well JVG would go all the way to hell and back to get this reviewed, i hope RA does the same!
Agree completely. If this had happened in the Toyota Center, the shot would have not counted. Those refs wanted to get out of Portland with their lives still intact, lol.
