I don't get what the big deal is. The Rockets had a good draft, they got Jeremy Lamb and turned him in a package into Harden. Terence Jones looks to be doing good in the D League. It's not as if the Rockets whiffed on anyone here. There are going to be a lot of players in this draft out of the league by the time their rookie contracts end. The Rockets didn't really lose that much, had they drafted someone else they probably wouldn't have ended up an NBA contributor either. There's only 1 guy on the board left after White that Houston could have picked that makes you go "Is now clearly better than White", and that's Jared Sullinger. A lot of 16th picks don't pan out. Oh well.
No one is pissed off because a late first round pick has not pan out but rather because Royce is being an unfathomable @sshole. He could quietly suck on the RGV bench but instead he chose to aggravate everyone and his dog.
That's partly Houston's PR people not controlling their leaks. San Antonio would probably not have allowed this, Utah Management would have moved to cut him already (2 highly secretive teams that hate media leaks). Royce is an unfathomable *******. He does get around the PR people by tweeting a lot, and going on CNN - although Rockets PR people could prevent who from the press has access and what Royce is allowed to do as a member of the Rockets. They could have just gotten rid of them already in an extremely politically correct manner. Let him go and have written something along the lines of "Despite our efforts to accommodate Royce White, we have mutually agreed to go our separate ways. The Rockets Organization thank Royce White for his time here. A donation has been made under Royce's name to University of Houston towards mental health research. We wish him the best in future endeavors." Fact is, Management doesn't want to give up on him, and the PR team has a nightmare on their hands they can't handle.
I predict he'll go away shortly after the Rockets don't pick up the option on his 3rd year. Just give it 7 more months.
In his interview with CNN he said "living in hotels while on assignment in the D-League does not provide the consistency he needs to manage his anxiety disorder". Whether in the D-League or the NBA, half your gms are on the road, and thus this means jumping from city to city and staying in different hotels night to night. Nothing about this profession provides "consistency". If he would have mentioned this to the Rockets (or any other team) before the draft, trust me he wouldn't have been drafted!!!! A life on the road is part of this profession. There's NOTHING consistent about it. In time he'll have the consistency he's seeking when he's running the drive-thru window at McDonald's and thus able to sleep in the same bed every night. I can see it now. As he hands over the food to the drive-thru customers he says "be well".
My problem with Royce is that he can never seem to articulate what it is he wants/needs in order to be successful. Until he figures that out, or is willing to admit he doesn't know (and devote the time/effort with a team doctor to figure it out), the team should not concern themselves with him (and to their credit, they haven't). If he has figured it out (i.e. limited away games), and the NBA/Rockets are unable to accommodate that, then they should just part ways and get it over with. I think a lot of people would respect Royce (and ostensibly those with mental health issues) if he was just honest with himself that this isn't going to work, and instead of being a raging narcissist and wanna-be martyr, he acted professionally about it and admitted his failures and moved on to go live his life how he wants and leave the Rockets/NBA alone. The NBA and the Rockets have no obligation to change for Royce, they are giving him the tools and opportunity to change himself and become an NBA player, and that is all you can ask of them. Of course, on the Rockets' end, they have guaranteed money tied up in him, so it's best to just let him stay in RVG until either 1) he flames out and voids his contract 2) he finally makes a breakthrough and is able to contribute to the team or 3) his contract ends. Whether or not Royce is legitimately afflicted with a mental condition, I'm more upset with Kevin McHale for being the sole reason we drafted him. I hope Royce gets it together, both for his sake and the Rockets, but I'm not going to spend my days spewing impotent rage at him on the internet. Life's too short for that.
he does not have a wife.... but I think eating ass is not legal  thats what I thought When asked in an interview with CNN last week what he needed from the Rockets, White cited “Recognition, understanding, willingness to learn.” He said he believed management anxiety disorders such as his would improve if medical professionals could “Take control away from people whose interest is obviously basketball and money.” http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterockets/2013/03/royce-white-to-return-to-d-league-vipers/#more-16044 At least those guys in control have INTEREST IN BASKETBALL Latest episode of his saga
people whose interest is obviously basketball and money = Rockets organization Royce should just GTFO.
Also, people who care about basketball and money = EVERY SINGLE FRIGGING NBA PLAYER, including you Mr. Royce White. If you just cared about basketball and your own "well being" then quit the job and go do something else, but I guess you care about that guaranteed contract more than you're supposed to right? seriously, nothing crazy, just a dislocated kneecap or something.
No use to actually report back and forth... only 5 or 6 games left.... Don't see how he can drastically improve unless they want him to play playoffs.... would not want ejection after ejection even if its DL playoffs... he cannot be counted upon
His cheerful attitude and playful antics are so endearing that he already feels like family. Anyone who feels otherwise is probably just jealous they can't figure out how to get paid $1.56M/year without having to work. Spoiler
