Thank you. Agree. Don't understand why some people on this thread are overreacting. We knew about his anxiety problems well before hand so why the **** show when what we felt could likely happen does happen?
I think a lot of it has to do with Royce downplaying the whole thing...even now, he's still downplaying it. Clearly he had a severe case of anxiety recently, otherwise he would have showed up, at least to camp. I know he was trying to protect his draft stock before, but he's got to be more honest about it now, especially if it is going to pop up like this. This is from a fan's perspective of course, so maybe we don't deserve to know more, but it looks like the team was surprised as well and didn't have much information.
Let's hope he will be alright, and join in the team soon. But, why the Rockets cannot let us know if this is a new development, or he had it before?
I'd agree with you, but that quote from Royce just makes my head spin. It's just baffling and makes me feel like he doesn't get the implications at all. For this to come out on the first day of training camp when he had all summer to make plans and talk with the team is just unacceptable. On top of that, the team (and Morey and McHale) seem like they've been blindsided by this as well. Dude's a rookie competing for a spot in the rotation, not Allen Iversen; he needs to be at PRACTICE.
Put it on the Rockets for not doing the research but overall unless he misses half of training camp, I don't care about him missing a day or two. He is most likely coming off the bench or destined to spend some quality time in the D-League. Anyone that thinks this will hinder the team or actually believed we are contenders for even the playoffs with his contributions being key is drinking the wrong kool-aide.
Don't question Morey's genius on White. Why would he take a chance on a 1st rounder if he didn't think he could dominate (marcus morris).
It seems he would have had horrible anxiety about going to Summer League. That was before a lot of practices/team developments/team relationships, ect. Why now? He should be 10 times more comfortable with the team by now.
Actually it seems like people here know how serious anxiety disorders can be. If he can't make the first day of training camp, what about game 1? What about the first road game or playoff game? And whats puzzling is he said he isn't having any anxiety currently.
Im not going to over react .... This personal matter could be damn near anything. Now if it becomes a trend ....
yes and no. They did know it was an issue thus they "saw it coming." I think Morey figured with 3 first round picks, he could afford to take a high upside player with some "risk" attached...and overall I think he was right to do it especially given we had 3 middle of the pack picks. Its not like he risked a top 5 pick on him or anything (and we know, on average, that most middle picks don't end in All-Stars--so the risk is probably worth it). Hopefully they can get White straightened out. shat I don't get is this wasn't a problem before the Summer league. I understand the season and summer league are different animals but all and all, anxiety disorders can be controlled and my understanding is that with greater routine and predictability, they tend to lessen.... Sooooo, maybe Royce really is trust trying to formulate a game plan to avoid future episodes...but that begs the question why he didn't do this sooner? And isn't that the definition of anxiety..worrying in the present about, in this case, the future?
I try not to read to much into quotes to be honest. Royce isn't a lazy guy he would't miss practice unless he something really big came up. I am not to worried at all. People are overreacting everyone was so impressed by Royce in SL. Now after this we are making comparisons to AI. Foolishness. I'd rather we figure this all out now before season.

please find anyone more open about a mental illness before being drafted than Royce...ever. Thanks in advance for your results.
