I'm not making light of his disorder, but we need players we can depend on being there at practice and games. If this is going to be an ongoing thing we just may need to cut the cord, let another team figure what to do with his disorder.
I get that but if you haven't noticed this team lacks GREAT players. If White has star potential then that's all I care about. This season is a wash anyway
What f'n pansy - man up. I called this last March. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=217000&page=2
Something tells me he's no superstar, just a great complimentary player. If we keep babying him, then when we start getting good and the games start mattering, then what? Cross your fingers and hope Royce is cured? Hope that the Rockets find some work around to get Royce to games and practice? If he was a Lebron type that's one thing, and I'm willing to be patient. But something tells me we're gonna bend over backwards for nothing.
A quick analysis of the schedule reveals the following “bus-able” games (less than a 10 hour drive) Spoiler November 9th, @Memphis, previous game is November 7th in Houston, 10hr Drive. December 1st, at home, previous game is November 28th in Oklahoma City, 7:40 Drive. December 7th, @San Antonio, previous game is December 4th in Houston, 3:30 Drive. December 8th, at home, previous game is December 7th in San Antonio, 3:30 Drive. December 16th, @Toronto (1pm game), previous game is December 14th in Boston, 10hr Drive. December 17th, @ New York, previous game is December 16th @ Toronto (1pm game), 8:35 Drive. December 26th, @Minnesota, previous game is December 25th @ Chicago, 7:18 Drive. December 29th, at home, previous game is December 28th in San Antonio, 3:30 Drive. January 5th, @Cleveland, previous game is January 4th in Milwaukee, 7:45 Drive. March 29th, @Memphis, previous game is March 27th in Houston, 10hr Drive. March 30th, at home, previous game is March 29th in Memphis, 10hr Drive. April 5th, @Portland, previous game is April 3rd in Sacramento, 10hr Drive. April 17th, @Los Angeles Lakers, previous game is April 15th in Phoenix, 6hr Drive. By my count, that’s 23 games; if you take out all the back to backs over 5 hours that gets you down to 16 or so. Doesn’t seem unreasonable on the surface, but he would definitely miss some practices/shootarounds along the way, and I’d have to think that Les Alexander still has some trepidation about buses after the Ron Artest Experience… 48 hours ago I was all aboard the "bust train", but after reading this disgraceful stuff coming out of OKC about Royce, I realized I already think of Royce as one of our own. I want him to succeed, I want to defend him from his critics and considering he's not exactly torpedoing a playoff contending team here, I'm happy to watch him struggle and hopefully triumph over his condition. Go Royce, go Rockets.
If he's indeed a star, it would be more worrisome. You know, his problem is ongoing and could pop up at any time. He might lead us to playoffs nexy year and then just dissappear before a Game 7. And no one could even say a bad word about that because he's ill. Any teams, good or bad, want players who are dependable more than anything, you know. I wish this guy the best. But I think he needs to seriously consider if nba with its environment and job demands is indeed a suitable career for him as health is the most important thing.
Realistically, i think it's closer to 4. The first game you listed, against Memphis, is a back to back game, they play the next day. He'd be out, at the earliest, by 1130 and back to houston by 1130 am, best case. To close to a possibly morning shoot around. If he's going to start missing shoot arounds, not only will that be a distraction, but possibly disruptive to team chemistry. I would worry about delays on the longer drives. They'd have to go over things twice, once with the team, then again with Royce, to be on the same page. I dont think he drives anywhere that's not in Texas, maybe OK, and NO.
Didn't you also criticize the Rockets for not assuming the worst and dealing with White's situation earlier? You think the Rockets knew before White would miss the camp?
Fyi, the writer apologized, so at least that's something. [rQUOTEr]After careful consideration, I have concluded that I owe Royce White, the millions of people coping with anxiety and their loved ones affected by their condition an apology. In a recent blog post I used an extremely poor choice of words in describing White, the promising rookie for the Houston Rockets. I called him a head case. For that, I am deeply sorry. Though I was using the term loosely, and while it never was my intention to equate the term to White’s mental condition, I realize how my lapse in judgment turned into an insensitive remark about a very serious issue regarding mental health. The use of that phrase was a mistake. I should have known better. I should have policed myself better. I do not personally know Royce White and I was wrong to attack him. But it is my hope that I can meet Royce at the Thunder-Rockets preseason game in Hidalgo, Texas on Wednesday night and personally apologize for my mistake. Sincerely, -Darnell-[/rQUOTEr]
can you give a recap? i used to black out much of the Ron Artest stuff after the Pacers traded him. it seems like i missed some interesting things.
http://www.myfoxhouston.com/story/19737112/2012/10/04/royce-white-says-agreement-in-place ^^New update on the situation with lots of quotes from White. He says he thinks things are close and it shouldn't go on longer than past this week...takes responsibility for not getting things worked out sooner.
