The moment you said medication is ineffective in treating anxiety issues is the moment you lost all credentials in commenting on this issue. No professional would completely ignore one field of treatment that has proven to be extremely effective, and blatantly claim it's ineffective despite a huge history of success. So either 1) You don't have experience 2) You got your credentials from DeVry. Whatever the answer is, you do not sound like a professional, and I can say this with confidence. You have absolutely no idea what happened, so you cannot make claims on his progress or his condition. Anxiety disorder is treated with time and patience. All therapeutic treatments towards anxiety disorder focuses on helping the patient gain control. All progress has to be voluntary and within the patient's own comfort zone.

Ironically, we all should be thankful that he's handling this with his agent, and the Rockets directly, and not the NBPA. The last thing his agent wants is for him to risk losing money by missing a large chunk of time or worse. You hand this over to Billy Hunter and Stern and everyone loses.
[edit] look at Royce White's tweets about "supporting health." This is a bigger cause to him. This is no different than Yao Ming's handlers demanding special treatment. How is this different? Were you on this board when that was happening. Huge arguments. Royce and his handlers seem to making a case for the NBA to accept better work conditions for people like him. Eddie Griffin comes to mind. Eddie might still be alive if someone like White came before him to "support health." Yao's handlers tried to coerce money out of the NBA. The Rockets couldn't do that by rules, but they offered special treatment (staff translator). White isn't coercing money but just asking for special treatment that should become normal treatment for all (right to create a supporting workplace), maybe a team doctor or just the right to have his own doctor at practices/games and on flights. Honestly, it sounds like Royce put this plan together a long time ago and Les tried to call his bluff; hence, why McHale and Morey were so uneasy talking about it.
My main point was that exposure therapy was most effective and medication was only minimally effective for social phobia, which is mostly true though I may have understated the effectiveness of meds a bit. Look, I understand your parents are probably psychiatrists so they told you all about the wonders of drugs at the dinner table last night. I don't have anything to prove to you, but I'd be happy to present my credentials to a mod on this board to verify them. I am a soon to be Full Professor at a prestigious medical school and have published more than 80 papers and book chapters in the areas of trauma and PTSD. I'm pretty sure I have more firsthand knowledge of treating anxiety disorders than any of the people attacking me and my credibility in this thread.
uh, worse. His handlers demanded the Rockets negotiate with them prior to draft day, or else. You obviously didn't witness the uproar on this board when it was going down. Talk about special treatment. You know this is similar.
I put a lot of the blame for this on the Rockets. They either didn't take White's condition too seriously or they ignored White's wishes completely.
Royce, I see you were able to mask the extent of your mental problems from inquisitive GMs prior to getting drafted just like me. Ryan Leaf
See this is where we differ. I have experience in the field, but unlike you I don't need to go around waving my credentials to prove a point. Nor do I need to use my credentials to insult other people's knowledge. For that matter, don't understate your mistake. You claimed medication has nothing to do with the treatment. And you are about to repeat your mistake again. No professional would make that statement, the effectiveness of medication is emphasized as early as high school psychology. I don't know which episode of Dr. Phil inspired you to do this, but you have no credibility in this topic. So stop acting like Dr. Phil.
Les's official statement "A personal matter" seems laughable now that we see White is negotiating a plan.
thanks 2 u & dobro for clearing up one thing i still dont get it is ,why white did not negotiate it when he's signing a contract with the rockets?
The real question isn't White's illness. Apart from some ignorant posts, most people here agree that White did not bring the illness to himself, and he had very little control in how the illness developed. The real question is, why wasn't this handled long before training camp started? White said they were being "proactive." Why weren't they proactive a month ago? The publicist said that they wanted a written consent from the organization. Why didn't they request it when he signed the contract? The coaching staff was obviously not happy about this. They were either not informed of the situation or they did not see eye to eye with management how it was handled. Bottom line, the Rockets management and the White camp, one of the two sides, or both, screwed up by not dealing with the issue much sooner.
I guess so. Looks like Yao didn't even arrive in Houston until 18 days after camp had started that year: http://www.clutchfans.net/features.cfm?moreviews=Y&startrow=1&endrow=12
You are a one issue pony going on and on about the meds issue. Cognitive behavioral therapy is more effective than meds, that was my point. Meds is not going to cure White's problems, that was also my point. I'm not doing this back and forth with you any longer. And no, having parents who dispense drugs does not make you an expert.

Not a good way to start an NBA career .... Hasn't even played a game and has pissed off your coach and bosses... Already asking for special accomodations...
