I don't look at this as a sign that the White family has a strong sense of entitlement as much as they are enablers of White's fantasy of himself and his environment. I'm sure they went to great lengths to make him feel like he's a superstar during this weekend and that the world is about to witness greatness.

Well...that's the thing. If he doesn't, he already has excuses and people to blame.

Whether it's justified or not, I can't recall a time in which a Rockets (or in this case, a member of the Rockets developmental system) player has received such a sustained level of hatred, mostly for what is happening off the court. And we had a player run into the stands and punch a fan out (however, IMO the guy deserved to get punched).

His suspension getting lifted has given him new cash to expand his imaginarian projects.

I'm sure Uncle Rico's family thought he could won state and thrown a football over a mountain if given the chance.

Excellent armchair diagnosis. Do you do other stuff? My left arm is sore...what's wrong with it? Broken? Cancer? Lifted weights? Help!

Hey, Royce White refused to go to work for a few months on less legit diagnosis than that.

Let me ask you...do you believe mental illnesses actually exist? Or are they just excuses people make up to be lazy/jerks/whatever?
I'm beginning to think 90% of the people who respond to Royce White threads are just dumb.

do you think Royce White, forward for the Rio Grande Vipers (he's played two games), makes wise decisions regarding his career?

do you consider him one of Houston's finest athletes?

do you think using the logos for the City of Houston, the NBA, the Houston Rockets, and the All Star Weekend is a wise choice when asking neighbors not to call police on you?

Of course mental illnesses actually exist, and there are people who fake them, and there are many who are misdiagnosed (especially when they only see family doctors instead of legit shrinks). Also, there are people who have legit mental illnesses who are just whiners about it. It's not a black and white issue. I believe that Royce White believes that he has all sorts of mental illnesses, but I believe that quite a few of the things he clams to have are nothing but misdiagnosis. For example, he claims to have PTSD because he saw someone faint once.....That's HIGHLY unlikely. Just because you might exhibit one or two symptoms of a mental illness does NOT mean that you have that mental illness.

Furthermore, having a mental illness does not mean that you are an invalid, no mater what Royce White would have you believe. Millions of people living with mental illness function perfectly well as contributing members of society every single day, his BS does nothing but make those people look bad.

Mental illness is serious and I am actually sympathetic to Royce in thinking that its more prevalent than some people believe.

That said, I do not like how Royce chooses to deal with his issues by throwing the Rockets organization under the bus by using his media spotlight and semi-intellectual babble that he read out of a cliff notes/quotes by famous people book.

Look, the kid's obviously got some major issues, mental illness being only one of them. This flyer that his family sent out is just being looked as another piece of evidence re: Royce's entitlement and use of false authority (the same kind of false authority/pressure he imposes on the Rockets every time he invokes the ADA).

How's about we let doctors decide who is faking and who isn't? And when a person with a mental illness is at risk for harm? You're claiming a misdiagnosis when you haven't even examined him? And, I'm assuming, you don't have a significant background in any aspect of psychology. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Instead, we have a bunch of Rockets fans upset that their first round draft pick isn't doing what we'd hope it'd do. It's silly and immature. I love the Rockets and hope we win every game....but this issue is much bigger than basketball.

As a group, GARM is acting like spoiled children when it comes to Royce White. We thought our new toy would be just what we wanted...but since it's not we're lashing out at everyone.

We don't even know who sent the flyer. Maybe if Royce is coddled it's because he stresses out when he isn't. Maybe that's the only way he can function due to his brain chemistry - he needs assurance that everything is alright. We don't know but some of you sure act like you do. Let's give the guy a chance to adjust to a brand new life and see where it goes.

Partying in a strange house you're not familiar with along with enough people coming in from out of town that you could possibly get the cops called (enough of a chance that someone actually took the time to make a flyer about it) doesn't sound stressful AT ALL.

    1) Yes - if his concerns about his mental illness are correct. He absolutely needs a mental health protocol. Just like you wouldn't ask a guy coming back from a stress fracture to play 42 minutes/game the day after getting off his walking boot, maybe you don't ask a guy with mental issues to ignore what he's feeling.
    2) Yes - he's a 1st round draft pick in the NBA. But that's not really what you're asking. You want to know why he put that on there. We don't know that he did. Maybe his family did it. And they're justifiably proud of their kid who overcame mental illness to make it to the NBA. Yeah he's an NBA player with a guaranteed contract. They're allowed to be proud of him. If my parents were allowed to be proud when I made my high school varsity his family sure as hell is allowed to be proud he's a first round draft pick.
    3) No. The city of Houston logo is completely wrong as it implies some sort of municipal go ahead. The other stuff is fine - he's a Rocket and he's throwing All Star weekend festivities. Is that really a problem? Personally, I wouldn't put any logos at all.

Basically, they wrote a letter telling neighbors not to be alarmed at the increase in traffic and that a pro athlete would be renting a house near them. Is this some sort of stealth dick move I've never heard of?

Look it doesn't really matter, Royce White will never be an NBA player that's worth a damn, so I don't really care. It's obvious he's more interested in several other things than he is in basketball so honestly, we'll have forgotten all about him in a few years.

As to "letting doctors decide", I'll let QUALIFIED doctors decide, not unqualified family doctors. If he was seeing legit shrinks, there would be no problem, but he's not. Also, I have no proof that he's actually been diagnosed with half of what he claims to be diagnosed with, even by his unqualified family doctor, so excuse me if I don't just give him the benefit of the doubt when he says ridiculous things.

He is doing all of this for political reasons, he could have played at the beginning of the year if he wanted to, he didn't. He thought that by making people who suffer mental illness look like invalid's it would advance some kind of political agenda, and that's why he's done what he has done. It's not silly or immature to be upset that a first round draft pick is refusing to show up, it's their job. It's not silly or immature to be upset that a selfish individual creates a blacklist ensuring that no team ever takes a gamble on another student athlete with mental illness.

    1. It's laughable to say that he makes good decisions. He put furthering a political agenda ahead of his basketball career....that's foolish as hell.

    2. He's the 5th best PF on the Rockets roster and maybe the 2nd best on the Vipers independent roster. I guess that makes him "one of" the best since being the 5th best at his position does count as ONE OF the best.

    3. At least you acknowledge that was wrong.

You do realize your last paragraph is just a circular argument, I hope.

Welcome to Clutchfans... glad to see you finally got to meet the one they call DD.

I wouldn't say DD adds quality posts by any stretch, but he adds something to the board... not really sure what to call it though. Glad your back though DD... Things should liven up a little bit more with you back.
