I hope this guy stays positive when he's out of the league and I hope his Anxiety Troopers will still be behind him.

He's doing the exact opposite for his cause. Should awareness about mental illness be raised? Definitely, then do so by playing the game and making yourself popular. Guys like Ali and Robinson got results first, they built their platform first.

He has a small platform that is going to collapse the moment he's not a NBA player any more, and then he'll be a cautionary tale for any GM hoping to draft that player with an anxiety.

He's not doing anything for your everyday person like he thinks he is. If he wants to then maybe he should get into politics, maybe he should go back to school and focus on politics. He looked more comfortable in that CNN interview than he has on the court.

Doesn't that make it more likely he's not scamming? Occam's razor and whatnot.

What the hell does he want from the Rockets? They did go above and beyond just to accommodate him. I hate how he implied in the interview that if he were a better player he'd be better accommodated. If that's how we measure how we treat him we should have given him a huffy and told his ****** to start peddeling cus he's just plain horrible.

Well maybe the simplest answer is that he is just dumb.

You assume that his goals are merely monetary. He wants to be viewed as some kind of Gandhi and MLK of mental health, that's his goal, and he's trying to scam the Rockets in an attempt to make it happen.

Maybe. But IMO that requires a bunch of assumptions.
I'm just inclined to believe he's going through a rough patch adjusting to being out of school. School is structured. Class, practice, study, etc. And he had a coach he trusted. If he has OCD as his interview on HBO indicated I'd believe he's struggling with this.
He's basically on his own now. Lot of young adults struggle with the transition. Add in his mental illness and you get the wild stuff coming from his Twitter feed.

This made me pause for a moment. I was judging the guy without knowing the full set of facts. I don't fault our brethren for getting angry with him for being a liability for the team but this is one sensible post nonetheless.

    Which team physician ?

And notice he said that it was "LOGICAL" not that it was recommended or anything, simply logical.

Which reads like he got in a discussion with the doc, and the doc said, sure, it is logical to be in Houston......and Royce ran the **** out of the room and straight to twitter.

I personally am not conned by him - at all.

I think the big difference between us is that you give him the benefit of the doubt and I don't. I'm not willing to believe that he thought it was "safer" to hop on a plane and fly to Houston for a CNN interview than it was for him to stay with the Vipers and play a basketball game tonight. Given his alleged debilitating fear of flying, it's pretty hard to believe.

Royce White has a lower rep than John Stockton on this board.

I have four questions that I wish someone in the media would point-blank ask, but I am sure this will never happen:

Q 1: (To Morey) If you knew then (before the draft) what you know now, would you still draft Royce White?

Q 2: (To White) If you knew then (before the draft) what you know now, would you have done anything differently, and if so, what?

Q 3: (To Morey) What were the exact specific assurances given to you by either Royce or his agent prior to the draft, regarding his ability to fulfill his responsibilities once drafted?

Q 4: (To Royce) What were your actual expectations regarding playing in the NBA prior to the draft?

I think these are important points, and if this ever ends up in a trial, these will be the main issues at stake. So naturally we will probably never know the truth of any of it, which sickens me.

    that makes zero sense.

sometimes, despite all good intentions, things don't work out. if White is truly ill i wish him the best.

you don't have the 'facts' to blame anyone, including McHale.

Well, why is Royce White talking to the press if he doesn't want to reveal his feelings?
Why is he twittering if he wants things to be private?
Why not just talk to the Rockets and NBA privately if he does not wish to reveal the facts?
Why leak Morey's personal letter to him when he does not wish to tell the specifics?

Also, why does Royce White not work on his basketball skills per his agreement of contract with the Rockets?
Why does Royce White not stay in shape and stay ready to work per his agreement with the Houston Rockets?
Why does Royce White not want to make compromises where he gives up a little to help the team, and only ask the team to cater to him?
And why did Royce White not bring up all of his demands before the draft?
Or for that matter, before he signed a contract which states that he has to do his best to be a basketball player for the Rockets?

Everything about Royce White is contradictory. The phrase "Actions speak louder than words" is so apt here. Forget everything he has said. What has he done that implies he actually want to be an NBA player?

The other stuff in your post was sensible...but this here is not true at all. There are many that have been given incredible athletic ability without working very hard for it. There are many that dont give their all in practices. Doesnt matter if we are talking elementary school or pros...you will find a decent amount that always got by without too much work.

Royce doesnt seem dedicated at all...just look at his twitter...he says he's a million different things (writer, poet, musician, etc...), yet he never mentions basketball. He doesnt care, and I think that's pretty easy to see.
