I dont think this is about the D-League, playing time, or his alleged fear of flying.... this is about Royce vs. the machine(in his mind). His GAD, OCD, PTSD, all just seem to be cover ups for what Royce's real issue is... he can't cope with the real world, and lives a very dillusional life where he thinks he some sort of warrior taking on the big bad empire when really hes just fighting against the people that are hear to help him out more than anyone. In the end, Royce is the only one who can cope with his own life, and his own personal demons. The burden of responsiblity can't be on his employer who has bent over backwards to lend a helping hand when they didn't have to. In the end, that's all this boils down to.... responsibility.
He talks over and over again on Twitter about transparency and communicating...about how important that is, even through the media. He's given a long-ass interview here.... and I still have no effing idea what specifically he is seeking. No idea at all. His communications are trapped in words like "health" and I have no idea what the logistical things are that he's asking of and from the Rockets. No idea. He's saying it's not about the travelling now. He's saying it's not about the D-League now...though he notes that it might affect his health. The idea that somehow he's going to be spared from the machinations of the NBA and yet still reap the rewards of an NBA player is beyond delusional. He won't quit though...he's smarter than that. If he quits, he walks away from the cash under that contract. He'll find another way...but I seriously doubt this man will actually be an NBA player for much longer.
Motiejunas is NBDL and Donatas is a bettter player than Royce so why the hell he should not just be with the Dleague team, fixing his brain
methinks today's meeting with morey is not just with morey. he could have visited morey's office over the weekend. seems like they had to wait until the first available business day because another party will be present as well. maybe players union reps or lawyers
Not sure about legal parties, but I think you are right that its going to be more than just Morey and Royce. More than likely they will look at potential buyout, waiving, or other potential contractual situations they might have to address.
So let me get this straight. White, angry about playing time and his move to the D-league takes to twitter, bad mouths Rockets' management and bad mouths anyone who is supposedly ignorant to his disease. Ok, now you're telling me there's a possibility he may skip his D-league assignment and get bumped back up to the A-team? You're joking right? Look, if he was descriptive about the Rockets are not doing to help him I would give him a lot more credit. If he didn't take to Twitter to fight/bad mouth the organization I would be behind him, and if he made a statement to the media with the Player's Association behind him I might even consider joining in on the Royce White riot against the Rockets. He didn't do any of that. He just b!tched a lot... and now it seems like he might get his way? That's astoundingly stupid. Of course, this is pure speculation. Morey might show some testicular fortitude here, but if Royce does end up skipping out completely on his d-league assignment then I don't know what to think anymore...
He's not the only athlete with a family. They all sacrifice time with their families b/c of the job. Same goes for the rest of the working world. I'd love to spend more time with my children, but part of taking care of them is going to work. I don't pretend to know what's up with this guy. I just know, from what is being released, he's the only one talking...a lot, and is the one that seems more stubborn than cooperative. AND it still bugs me that he hasn't even played a regular season minute...
It comes down to if you believe mental illness can't be self-controlled. He did a good job explaining everything. Those criticizing him still think it's a matter of him getting mentally tough and be mature -- the exact issue he's having trouble with. Otherwise it's not called mental illness but just normal issues most people can overcome with time. Royce relies on stable environment, trust and help to deal with the anxiety issue. It's very natural for him to have anxiety over triple flight time, new environment, dleague assignment/no playing time(we all know how the mentally healthy Morris feels last season) and seeing the doctor instead of the one with him for so many years. Now that he's accepting the outside doctor's opinion, we should just let the professional make judgement calls.
Here's my take: Whatever the **** Royce White's current voodoo doctor is doing to manage Royce White's illness is clearly not working, since Royce White is not currently a functional productive member of society. Here's my solution: Get that man to a real doctor. Pronto!
You are right that it is natural for him having anxiety over those things. Where you are wrong, though, is your suggestion that because he has a mental disorder he is not in control of his recovery or how he deals with it. White has done a horrible job of coping with his illness(es). The most important part of recovery is taking responsibility for his own recovery and working to face the things he's afraid of. It also sounds like he has gotten either no real mental health treatment or terrible treatment. Either way, if he doesn't take more responsibility and more actively manage his problems, he will not only be out of the NBA soon, he will have no chance at functioning in life.
Or he's a very young man with a legitimate problem who doesn't know how to deal with it. Basketball isn't the issue. If he had just graduated with an accounting degree he'd be having the same issues trying to find employment in that sector. Basketball is just something that triggers that stress response right now. If he can overcome it and make it a part of his routine, he'll have trouble adjusting when it comes time to retire.Based on what he's said, it seems to me like he's doing everything in his power to not have to deal with it at the moment. I don't think that's very healthy. At some point you have to make a decision. This is going to cause me stress, but I believe that it will get better over time and be beneficial to me in the long run.
This guy belongs in mental hospital not on basketball court. Makes no sense saying he's a father but expected to be special treatment for his "condition" while putting no effort into getting help. Pretty sure Mchale is furious and kicking himself right now watching this fiasco unfold
Its really pathetic that he's using his own kids as an excuse to all of this. All of this drama is really his maturity problem and since he doesn't get what he want, he would say that he would leave millions on the table to be a father when he can be a dad as an NBA player. I hate the fact that he's not even trying to crack the rotation but using every other excuses while other players like Jones & Dmo has been working their tails off. So when his kids gets older and finds out he was in the NBA but gave it all up because he didn't get what he want. So what are they going to think of him then? That they are in a financial problem and he gave up millions because he was too stubborn and selfish? If he wasn't selfish and think about his kids more, he would just shut up, go to practice, work hard and slowly work his way into the rotation. But because he's too selfish and only think of himself, he's creating all this mess. He doesn't realize that every other rookies have to work their tails off to crack the rotation. Terrence Jones has been the best rookie so far and he finally crack the rotation against the Lakers. The coaching staff will give players PT when they think players are ready, not because they will go crazy without PT. Who cares whether he has anxiety or not, every player has to go through the same route to get minutes.
Until we get real feedback from the doctors, I don't think any of us understand how serious his issue is. You can't ask blind people to see, those with broken legs to walk, and to some extent you can't just ask MENTALLY ill people to be mentally tough and mature. You need to communicate and create stable environment and provide trust/help as much as possible. After that and with other treatments, it's still not garanteed to work - unique case in NBA. I think with his track record, Morey should know all these well before picking White. If he really just picked a top5 talent with 16th pick like Morey confirmed, wouldn't you think it's a steal and maybe too easy with merely some bus arrangement(sounds like the cost is taken from Royce's contract)?
Sorry, but no. He is not "broken", he has mental illness(es) that are very treatable but he has to work hard to get better. His tweets should all be about how he is going to conquer his fears, how he needs support to get on that plane, how he is willing to accept any help that the Rockets can provide. Dealing with mental illness is not all about "healthy environments"- it is about conquering your fears within your environment, no matter how unhealthy. When White was trying to get drafted, he flew a number of times so he can clearly do that. I am sure that he is feeling overwhelmed with anxiety, but no amount of creating a "healthy environment" is going to fix that unless he chooses to fight harder. I don't think White has much insight into his own problems or how to get better, and it's a shame that people are learning the wrong messages about how one recovers from such problems.
