The playoffs are about matchups, not overall performance. Going into the season, no one thought old father time in San Antonio was going to play as well as he has in years, or that the lakers would be anything less than conference finalists, not to mention the memphis matchup. Perkins is certainly a liability against Miami, but I think he doubted he could even get there without him. Whilst I think he made a mistake, I understand where he was coming from, and somewhat agree with his rationale. That the media tried to pawn it off as they didn't lose out, was nothing short of moronic though.
He has value as an expiring contract. He will make the roster next year for the same reason that Jonny Flynn did a few years ago. His contract is guaranteed. If he can show any value on the basketball court, that would be a nice surprise.
If we could trade him for a trade exception, that would be awesome. I'm sure Morey will look for that, but no one will bite.
Royce had a chance to be a contributor on an NBA team. He blew it. He had a chance to redeem himself in the D-League with the Vipers. He blew it. The Rockets accommodated his (nearly) every whim, including busing to games. He blew it. (His wad that is--At least he got new babies out of the deal). The Rockets make the playoffs without Royce and proved to the West they are a team to reckon with. The Vipers are crowned D-League Champions without Royce. Royce is now beginning to understand that.....HE BLEW IT! Don't want. Don't need. Cut him. Even if he has 'talent' it will all go to waste due to there being a good chance he will wreck team chemistry with his unstable act.
For someone who wants to do battle with the young warriors, his response to the signing of Aaron Brooks would show that he certainly doesn't think that highly of them. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>. @<a href="https://twitter.com/ho_chencsn">ho_chencsn</a> what's the point? Going through this guy's tweet history convinced me to officially give up on the Royce White Project... <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>. @<a href="https://twitter.com/mj4sports">mj4sports</a> @<a href="https://twitter.com/donatasmot">donatasmot</a> C'mon Matt, don't you want to interview a true superstar?<a href="https://twitter.com/search/%23mayberoycewhite">#mayberoycewhite</a> I got ejected yesterday. <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%23attentionplease">#attentionplease</a></p>— Royce VVhite (@Royce_VVhite) <a href="https://twitter.com/Royce_VVhite/status/305704533131153408">February 24, 2013</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Royce White showed his potential during college and even during the Rockets summer league. Had everyone excited on this board. He has talent, and was drafted as a lottery pick, but his ego and all of his shenanigans may have cost him an NBA career. If he really wants to attempt to be apart of the team, he needs to first meet with Morey, Lesly, and McHale whether separate or together, and apologize for all of his shenanigans. Then he needs to convince them that he's willing to put in the work to become a rotational player and leave all the drama behind. That begins with getting in shape, working on all of his weaknesses, showing up to summer league, media day, and training camp. Attending ALL meetings and practices and showing up to ALL of the games. Even then it may be too late, but for his sake, it's worth the shot.
