If it is true then it is true. Maybe he is also untruthful about the situation. Him handling the situation could have nothing to do with the anxiety or maybe it could. That is another discussion on how he handles himself. I can see how using anxiety as an excuse for his action can be frustrating and I agree with you. But the fundamental issue is whether or not the Rockets organization will treat this as any other medical situation.
My well being is more important than any sport, school or job. I'm sure your well being stand just as high. What is our goal in life? We are all trying to find happiness. Some think happiness will come from a successful career others through a big family. I'm sure he realized that his well being and happiness will come through mental stability. If you don't have that then nothing will make you happy. I can't say what I would do because I know nothing of the situation. In general I would think about myself first then I would think about the team. Him not doing that will sacrifice himself. It is more than just sacrificing working extra hours or donating money to a charity.
There may be some impact, but I doubt it will be substantial or long lasting. In the end the difference in attitudes towards mental illness are primarily generational. Just as the younger generation has different attitudes towards technology, lifestyle, race and politics, they also have a differently informed view towards mental illness. 20 years ago PTSD carried a heavy stigma. The terms "man up" and "coward" were thrown around cavalierly. Today it's viewed in very different terms by large portions of the population. We see these transitions in attitudes towards psychological disorders like eating disorders, depression, and bipolar personality disorder. So there might be a blip, but in the long run the younger generation with their more accepting views will carry the day. Unfortunately for White, he's trying to be an advocate and an example, but he has not learned the lessons of the many pioneers of such causes that came before. If pioneers against prejudice like Jesse Owens, Jackie Robinson, and Ghandi could see Royce White today, they would look on with some sadness. White has a unique platform in order to advocate for his cause, however he has forgotten that a platform is only meaningful if people care enough to listen. A sad day for Anxiety Disorder sufferers, a sadder day for Royce White.
This is where I think the disconnect happens. He has chosen to commit to a career that he knew very well that the team always comes first. This is what is expected of all the players on the team. To me, its like choosing to become a brain surgeon when you don't have the capacity to stand the sight of blood. In addition, NBA history has shown that most players are treated as commodity or assets. This is where I don't understand why Royce wants to be treated any differently.
It's sad.I'm not saying every anxiety sufferers should carry the torch, but they did look up to him,and Royce,by mouth, said he intended to. I've seen tweets that these patients write up to him.
Royce White needs to go. Today. I have been reading his tweets and this guy is an off the charts idiot! I have never, in all my years, seen a person do more to hurt their reputation than this guy! If I were Morey and Alexander I would guarantee a full refund. I don't think the league has seen someone this unprofessional. He literally doesn't stop tweeting about his problems and how the Rockets aren't doing him right and every other post has the words mental illness. He is nuts!!
