My point is that Sengun was winning the matchup - by a lot - and the interview should reflect that. I don't know what this coach is talking about because if you listen to what he's saying, it sounds like Sengun was losing the matchup. I would expect the answer to Vanessa's question to be something that indicates that the matchup was going in Houston's favor. If you had not watched the game and just watched this interview you would think that Bam was abusing the hell out of Sengun, and that Sengun was mailing it in. I don't care how harsh they are towards Sengun himself, they can coach him as hard as they want, that's what Sengun wants. But this is not coaching, this is an interview which is a message to the fans that are watching on TV. This is not a message to the team, Sengun is not listening to this, and it's not a "mic'd up" segment. As a fan I'd like to hear that the coaches say that they're happy that he's doing well, not make it sound like he's getting his ass kicked, while criticizing his effort.

Biggest difference in the game were free throws...they were the more aggressive team, especially on our home court we can't get punked like that!
I'm glad Amen threw down that little turd Herro! He's starting to become a Rocket killer, smh

Oh, ok! I agree, and dont have any explanation for that interview other than speculation. Just find strangely weird to bring this up after losing the game and having Sengun struggle with playmaking in the 4th.

I was watching the Heat broadcast and even they agreed with you. Sengun was the best player for most of the game.

Pretty level headed response to watch that interview and say this is xenophibia/racism.

I think Royal Ivey answered it that way because he was put on the spot with a question on the team's franchise player so he just focused on that and didn't have time/ability to come up and articulate a more appropriate answer

he could have said Alpi & Bam matchup is okay but Alpi and teammates need to come out even stronger, harder, more effort, etc in the 2nd half

This seems like a big Nothing Burger. Alpi has said he responds to tough coaching and accountability.

What happens when your starting guards shoot 6/20 and 6/17 from the floor?

Ivey only praised Steven Adams because he's black.

The difference is that Alperen asks to be coached hard (his father even asked that he be coached hard), he said the league was too soft when he came in and didn't like it. Jalen has never been coached hard, he has been coddled his entire life, and would not respond well to criticism. The coaching staff has to deal with different personalities the best way they can, its not going to be the same w every player.

Even if there was a grain of truth to the OP's post, this is such a nonsensical overreaction, I don't even know where to start. I can just about guarantee Alpi did not even think twice about this, if he even heard about it.

I don't think OP is a Sengun fan, but I might be wrong. Seems like just stirring the pot. Worked.

The hard coaching thing is irrelevant. This is not coaching.

probably Ivey was not happy with the defense and he was ready to say something along those lines, something like we were soft, should have been better etc, regardless of the question.

    Cry babies.

Popovich always use to cuss out Duncan.

Showing the rest of the team that if he cusses out the top players.he will
    cuss out any of them.

    ____________
    Greenleaf YouTube video:
person called in summer episode: I don't care if Alpi doesn't ever shoot 3's.
[ Selfish attitude keeps from having space for teammates. Maybe that's why
teammates don't hit 3's, so Alpi doesn't have room either. What's good for the
goose is good for the gander. ]

    Another Greenleaf You Tube video:
Caller A: Man Alpi had 5 turnovers in this game
Caller B: Man Alpi ain't the point guard though. He can have that many turnovers on occasions.
[ Me: if the team is using you as the hub of the offense...then you are point Center.
You can't have that many turnovers. If Jalen is point shooting guard, then he can't
have that many turnovers either. ]

Observation: congrats to Alpi for 38 points (25 FGA's) recently.......but 1 freaking assist. Really.
Somebody was Ball Hog playing Hero Ball. He wasn't even looking for others
when I was watching the game.

I would hate to coach your children. If a coach cannot be honest then he is useless. Let us revisit the quote:

Vanessa asked Ivey “It’s been a battle down low between Bam and Alpi. How can Alpi win that matchup in the second half?”

Ivey: “He’s got to bring more effort. He’s got to keep Bam off the boards. He’s getting his hands on everything. Every 50-50 ball he’s getting. We got to be more physical. The physicality isn’t there right now.”

Bam was very very aggressive against Alpi last night. He fronted Alpi or did not let him get in that mid to low post position. On defense Sengun had trouble guarding him. He shot a couple jumpers, drove baseline and out muscled Sengun for a couple off boards.

This is likely what Ivey was talking about. He was asked directly what Sengun could do to win and he gave Vanessa his answer which is increased physicality from Sengun. He also said “We” likely referring to the team who had poor transition defense, lacking intensity on man def, and problems switching and communicating throughout that first half.

This is the stupid Caitlin Clark bullshi+ all over again. Stop it

“If he played the other way we would win struggles and wouldn’t have to lean on other guys.”

He even benched Green several times last year. I suppose this is biased against Sengun as well.

Bam outworked him simply. That’s why Bam is on Team USA and an all star despite not being as offensively talented as Sengun. If anyone really watched that first half Bam had his way with Sengun on offense driving baseline, shooting 15 ft j’s, and outmuscling him on both off and def.
