I don't get the hate either. Cruises aren't my favorite way to vacation, but I like them.

The biggest thing they have going for them, in my mind, is how easy it is to plan for them financially. You book your ticket (and maybe some shore excursions) and you're basically done. Even tips. Sure, you can spend more on alcohol and gifts once you're on the ship or on shore, but you don't have to.

If you want the most cost effective way to see a bunch of places, cruising is the way to go. You can be as lazy or as active as you want. My family cruises a lot for reunions because it caters to so many types of people. I've been all over the Caribbean, Europe, Alaska, and Hawaii on cruises and it was way cheaper than flying and paying for hotels in each place. Sure, you don't get a ton of of time in each port, but at least I know where I'd want to spend a full vacation next time around.

Totally agree. People who hate cruising and criticize those who do probably never even been on one.

Someone already mentioned that a cruise is the most economical vacation, especially for a family of 4 or more.

For the most part, airline tickets alone cost more than the base price of the cruise.

Mariner of the Seas was recently replaced by the Navigator of the Seas in Galveston. Navigator has been upgraded and now has the Flow Rider on it. RC gets a bad rap as the seniors cruise when they actually have more activities.

On a side note, Princess Cruise Lines will depart from the Bayport Cruise Terminal on Hwy 146 soon. Norwegian will depart from the same terminal next fall.

I did. Flew to Melbourne, was bused to Cape Canaveral for the cruise.

It was used just as a port to board. Same thing on another cruise that I went on in New Orleans. Raced through the city to barely make the cruise, then went straight home. (although we drove there).

I believe Navigator will be in Galveston starting Dec 2013 then it will be in dry dock late Jan - early Feb 2014 and then it will start year long cruises out of Galveston on Feb 5

Is Royal Caribbean the best cruise line?
