Hilarious. Can't wait for the next episode of Dallas Diva Debacle. The great thing about it is they both come out looking like douches on this one. Roy for trying to haze a rookie who is almost assuredly going to be a more productive receiver than he will be, and Bryant for not understanding that rookie hazing is as natural as hair on your back.
how about they continue the immature hazing and the team spirit it engenders pays off during the slog of dec/jan when injuries and adversities test the mettle of a team? oh wait. this is America. team building and learning to sublimate yourself in non-serious ways to pay your dues is evil and let's nuke iraq and china
this has nothing to do with who is the better player. nothing about which is the better receiver. it's simply a rite of passage. dez needs to lighten up. rookies up and down carry bags/pads/etc. just part of being on the team as a rookie.
I can understand Dez being a little embarrassed to carry Roy's Maxipads around... the first time I had to go through the check-out line with my gf's feminine hygiene products, I was a bit shaky too.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/07/25/dez-bryant-off-to-impressive-start-in-cowboys-camp/ This is the only article cowboys fans care about. Roy Williams has no respect in the boys locker room or from the fans right now. All cowboys haters keep praying that this minor event at the beginning of training camp is going to ruin the "chemistry" in Dallas.
I've never understood 'hazing', frats or football. Sure it's tradition, people do it because they had it done to them, like child abuse. But what's the point?
OK Mr. Sensitive, the example was only to illustrate how a continuing cycle of abusive behavior is justified in the abusers mind by what he has experienced himself. The consequences are of course hugely different but the thought process is similar. Would you like to provide some rationale for the tradition?
it's immature. it's goofing off. there's nothing terribly important about it...but it's part of the experience of training camp. and as long as no one is getting hurt, I don't see the problem with it, really. 99.9% of the guys carry the pads or buy dinner and laugh about it.
Hazing about establishing a hierarchy. Vets know rookies will eventually take their jobs. It's a mind game to establish their position of superiority and diminish the rookie. Again I have never understood the idea that if you accept our abuse you are worthy to be one of us. I'd fight before I accepted abuse.
Carrying pads is abuse? LOL. Maybe it is the Vets way of finding out if you will subjegate yourself for the good of the team... In a TEAM environment. DD
I just think you're being too dramatic about it. This isn't abuse. Doesn't matter if you're the #1 overall pick or an undrafted free agent....they have ridiculous karaoke nights with these guys. They have them pick up bags/pads, etc. I think you're looking into this way too deeply. Not really my thing either, Dubious...if I were a veteran, I'd have a difficult time expecting someone to carry my pads. But I don't think it's a big deal, either way.
Yeah I'm sure this will lead to failure... Who gives a ****, Dez is doing the right thing. He said **** acting like a rookie, I'm here to play ball and win games.
