A douchebag that will defend you if I ever have the chance, because I will know how to do it. Or maybe I won't be able to...? Who knows?
^ Sorry about dragging your name across this, man. I knew you could help. That's the one on I-10 near Bunker Hill? I see that place all the time and didn't know there was a range there. Thanks. EDIT: I see it now on the map, closer to between Bingle/Voss.
Lol you guys are ridiculous. He's asking for shooting lessons. For self defense. Not where he can buy guns to attack someone. Wow.
Why so much hate Swoly?? He is asking the right and proper questions for someone new to the idea of getting a CHL's. I dont understand...everybody on this board knows Swoly and do you really think he's gonna go out and shoot some place up?!?!
Just got back from the gun range. Had fun, but indoor ranges aren't as enjoyable as outside ranges...
Here is my weapon of choice <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/JPzIisdtS8o" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> And as for the shooting range. Try Gander Mountain.
This reminds me of the time (9/12/01 I think it was) when I asked if anyone knew where I could take flight lessons. I wasn't really interested in knowing how to land a plane, just how to fly one. For some reason people looked at me weird when I said that.
.40 Walther PPS is my carry of choice. I had been using my .40 Walther P99 but it is just too big to conceal easily. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/unOXaB3QoYk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I swear to you all, I would be the last person to try to hurt someone on purpose, without it being in self defense. I don't need to excuse myself for wanting to be educated more and to learn how to do this. I think you all would be thankful there's another person with some sense about what it means to have one of these powerful things to defend himself, you and your peers. ROXRAN what are some outside ranges?
When I'm in Houston, you'll find me at the Carter's Country near Spring. (Not often, live in Nashville right now) One thing I learned is value and with so many guns out there, you need to know where you can't go wrong with on comparable quality. Glock, M&P are probably your best handguns for the money. Not complicated, quality, no hard to learn safety device like the Beretta double action...in fact stay away from double actions if possible. (Glocks and M&Ps are like single action) The best double action are the Sig handguns but pricey. The best single action is a 1911 handgun. My preference is either 9mm or .45 cap Some other like .40 or other rounds but I don't. For sporting rifles, .223/5.56mm is the way to go. AR15 rifles can be pricey - I have three, but they are actually well made for defense since the .223 bullet tends to fragment and not bust thru houses the way larger rifle bullets will do. Definitely include at least one pump action as well. 870 or Mossberg
I grew up watching my grandfather shoot guns on New Year's eve and on "special occasions" pull it out from behind the vitrine or the door. This was back in the late 80's and early 90's. I believe he had a couple rifles he used for hunting way back in the day and maybe a 12 gauge and a couple of revolvers, nothing semi-automatic or "newer" stuff like you mention above. I hated the sound of the guns and a couple times got to pull the trigger and was definitely scared, but slowly realized he had them there for "self defense." Some might disagree with that (shooting it in public or letting us do it), but we never had the access to them without him letting us, and most of us knew that if we touched one of those without his permission, we were going to be toast and reminded of it and embarrassed forever. He is and was the respected patriarch of the family and he taught me and my brothers so much here in the states about defending yourself and each other, and I picked up a lot of the common sense street stuff from him. I learned from my grandfather that those things weren't toys and that you should NEVER be having to use it and that it should be the last resort if you had to. I believe those things are still in his house, and he doesn't bring them out at all or show them around at gatherings... our family is too big and there is always many other people from outside the family there, so I'm thinking he might not want to show that around. I thought it was clear from the beginning that I meant no harm with this thread and hope that those people who think I did can now realize it. Anyway, SeƱor ROXRAN, I thank you for your recommendations. I told Mrs. SwoLy I intend to learn first and see how I do, and if possible take her with me to the range to see me in action or to learn herself. Anything you think she can use as a starter or just learning for now?
There was a shooting, we need at least a 72 hour moratorium on talking about guns. The outdoor range in Pearland is nice.
Your grandfather would shoot guns on special occasions like NYE, but they weren't toys? My ass. You may have good intentions, but based on what I have observed on these forums, you definitely lack common sense. People like you are not responsible or aware enough to be trusted with a killing machine. The fact that you can buy a gun is evidence enough that our gun laws are crap and are in desperate need of reform.
