Francis and Rice for O'Neal, Tinsley, and a draft pick would make more sense for both teams. Tinsley is a pass first pg, the Rox could afford to resign Posey, and they would still have a bench. The Pacers get one all-star and they can generate some cap room with rice's expiring contract, or package him with one of their young talents (Bender maybe) for someone like a Brand, or at least a SAR.
Thank God. Hopeless trade speculation to make the long summer worth living (no NBA! Freeze me cryogenically and thaw me out in October, please). First of all, Isiah/Walsh would have to believe O'Neal would leave the team high and dry (no compensation at all). Jermaine O'Neal will sign for the max (of course). Guy's a stud. Worth every penny. Doesn't that make O'Neal a base-year compensation player? So if he earns $10 million in the first year of his new contract, the Pacers can take back only $5 million....right? Same thing with Brad Miller, if he's actually part of a large trade package that is being putting together. He would be BYC...wouldn't he? Sorry, guys and gals, but Indiana will ask for Eddie Griffin. Cat and Eddie Griffin would be a semi-reasonable price to ask for JO. We would probably also have to take Croshere's contract. No big deal, but unless Isiah likes Mo over Croshere (reverse discrimination!! - sorry, couldn't help myself), then isn't that like swapping the same contract/player? So, as I'm seeing it, we would need to involve a third team, either in a 3-way trade, or for Indiana to make a separate trade with FIRST (a team with cap space: Utah? San Antonio? Washington? Miami? Denver?) in order to have a trade exception to work with. If any of this is remotely possible, then it would make some sense for both teams. Indiana has pieces to make separate trades. Cat could be their starting 2; Miller should just sign for the MCE elsewhere anyway, try to get a ring. As far as who plays the 2 for us, maybe James Posey? And if this is at all true, someone should hang for letting it slip, because someone like Mark Cuban would jump in there and screw it up.
Yeah, the Pheonix Suns are definitely a more attractive than the Rockets, right? Jermaine O'Neil will be a very very solid backup for Stoudamire, right? Hey, why did Barkley dropped out of your sorry team to come here? And, what are you Suns of Biotch troll doing here in Clutchcity? Go back to your ESPN Suns board and be sorry there with your sorry friends. Don't you think we are too big of a community for a hillbilly like you?
woo-hoo! you know what this means right? LESS TOUCHES FOR YAO! ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FRIEKIN MINDS? This will be the worst thing for the Rox...we need an Andre Miller or Jason Kidd type of player to distribute the ball. unload taylor and cato but not for Jermaine O'neil. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
I was in Dallas and anyone there who listens to 1190 can tell you that the Mavs are going to go hard and heavy after JO. According to Art Garcia (I believe that is his last name) the writer who travels with the team and has a lot of info for the FW Star Telegram, the Mavs are are even considering sending Nash or Finley as a part of the deal to bring him there. Their list after JO is: 2) Alonzo Mourning 3) PJ Brown 4) Karl Malone The talk is they want to sign and trade for JO AND sign Mourning to the $4.9 mil excemption.
Well, I don't think it would take that much, but this package is a good start. Mobley, Griffin are definites. Cato is a probable. Rice makes it work for salary purposes. That'll probably get it done, especially if Croshere (& his contract) is coming back in return.
What do we need JLO for? I can think of two ways: 1) Sing the national anthem before the game 2) Perform in half-time break 3) ?
Yeah but O'neal is a unrestricted free agent. He could leave the Pacers and they would get nothing. This particular trade does not have to be fair (in our eyes that is) to work.
Wow, this may actually work... for these reasons: 1. The 15% rule. If Rox take Mercer ($6.9M), J.O. (signed at $10.0M), and Croshere ($7.6M) it's $24.5M. If they give away Cat ($5.4), Cato ($7.8M), Taylor ($7.3) and nachbar ($1.4) they'll be taking in $22M which is within 15%. For the Pacers it's taking in $22M and giving away $21M (J.O. would count at $6.9M as a BYC player) 2. If Pacers felt that J.O. was going to leave, this deal works great for them. They get rid of Croshere, and get the guard who can create off the dribble that they have tried so hard to find. (remember, they drafted Fred Jones waaay high, just for this reasson...). 3.Now, why would J.O. want to leave at all? There is only one explanation: he doesn't want to play at C full time. If he signs for the max, it's pretty much a lock that B. Miller is a goner, they can't afford both of them. And if J.O. won't play at C, then the Rox are a very good place for him...
Uh, not unless you think O'Neal would take the $4.5m exception and spite the Pacers. That is highly unlikely; the deal would have to be fair for both sides since the Rockets have no cap room.
I'd pass on O'Neal, I don't think he would make the Rockets all that better at the cost of what it would take to get him. I hope he goes to Orlando so the East can have a formidable tandem of O'Neal and McGrady to compete with the West.
