Hey guys, The ESPN Pacers board is going nuts with this stuff. Quote: Yesterday I told you DA had said this and you did not believe me WEll confirmed by Les today B Miller and JO to Rockets EG, Cato, Cat, Taylor and a pick 2005 1st top 4 protected to Pacers B Miller and JO sign for 20 million a year for 6 years then are delt to Rox. End quote: What do you think ??????
Rofl you guys are believing the crap that some of those Houston fans try to spread on the espn boards? 1. Why would Brad Miller want to come to Houston? To backup Ming? LOL 2. I am not sure it is even possible to add any other players for a team that does the sign and trade. 3. Other teams would offer more than a bunch of role players , bad contracts and a late first round pick for Jermaine O'Neal.
One thing that comes into question in my mind is Indiana and Cat: They have Artest, Miller, Harrington, (do they still have Mercer). To me getting Cat wouldn not be a big deal. If I was the Pacers I would be thinking Francis, Taylor for O'neil and Tinsley. Francis, Harrington, Artest, Bender or Taylor, and B. Miller would be a nice lineup. One more thing, I am betting that the only way this deal could get done is that if we throw Rice and his epireing contract to them in return for Croshire (sp?) and his rediculous contract, in that case I say no deal.
Money actually IS an issue there. Under the current CBA, O'neal could make substantially more money by signing a contract with his current team in a sign-and-trade. He can get 12.5% annual raises (rather than 10% with another team). He can also get a seven-year deal (rather than a six-year deal with another team). Therefore, if O'neal were involved in a S&T, he could make ~$10-15M more than he would get by signing for the "max" with the Spurs. I also agree that the Pacers MUST be trying to unload Austin Croshere's contract on the Rockets. I wouldn't doubt that the Rockets would do an O'neal/Croshere for Mobley/Taylor/Cato deal, because Carroll Dawson has loved Croshere (perhaps not at that salary, though) since 2000. I think the Rockets WOULD have some depth after such a trade: Guards: Francis, Posey, Moochie, FA (Jon Barry, perhaps?) Forwards: O'neal, Griffin, Rice, Croshere, Nachbar, Morris Centers: Yao, FA (?), plus O'neal can play backup center That is not a bad team. Rice is still a valuable commodity ON the court with his shooting touch. Croshere can play, too; but he got lost in the shuffle with all the forward depth in Indiana. Plus, a free agent addition like Jon Barry would add more shooting and hustle. I say "Go for it!" Of course, like most people on this BBS, I don't see it actually happening.
My point exactly. If I'm Indy and Houston wants O'Neal, I'm not going to shaft myself. The best scenerio is Francis(5mill) Taylor(8mill) and probably Griffin for J'Oneal 13mill and Tinsley and everyone is happy. Houston gets the defensive minded pass first pg and the stud 4 while Indy gets a all star pg and a capable scorer at the 4. I don't think Indy would do it anyway you slice it.
Getting Jermaine is great, trading Cato and Taylor means getting rid of bad contracts, trading Cat means he longer plays on the same team as Steve. But if we move EG to the 3, who's gonna play backup? You expect O'Neal to play PF and backup C for 48 mins a game?
hell yeah, lets get all these players who demand the ball. then, maybe if we're lucky, we'll be the clippers east.
Okay is there a link for this? or are we just speculating? Doing that deal would kill the bench, but if the Rockets are going to trade for Oneal, I seriously doubt that would be only move they make. Getting Oneal would be sweet but I cant believe that the pacers would do a deal that does not include francis or yao. This is probaly a top 12 player or so and all they want is a bunch of "nice" players, this dosent make sense.
MLE and Rice's expiring contract gives you the off guard you are looking for. Or move Francis to the 2 guard and go after another PG with the MLE or Rice's expiring contract.
Would the Rockets have enough money to pay for Francis Ming Oneal. And then have anything left over. Does anyone in the league have anything close to 3 max contracts. I dont know I guess Im just confused on the money issues.
No, in my scenario I would still have Posey at the 3 spot and Griffin as the first big off the bench. Posey of course could swing to the 2 spot. I could see our roster looking like this: PG: Francis, Norris, {some other FA} SG: {MLE person / Rice traded for someone}, Posey, Francis, Hawkins SF: Posey, Nachbar, Griffin, TMo PF: O'Neal, Griffin, TMo C: Yao, O'Neal, Griffin, {another FA}
I gotta see or hear proof to believe this. But if you check out the ESPN boards, some guy (Ming7_6) is spitting this out left and right.
#1 I haven't heard Aldridge say this. #2 I think they would insist we take Croshere #3 I would think it would be something like this: Griffin, Mobley, Cato, Rice, Nachbar and 2 #1's for O'Neal and Croshere ....... Rice gives them an expiring contract for Croshere. Griffin gives them a good young talent, Mobley as a future sg. Cato as good depth at the 5. Nachbar as another commodity a couple #1's
After reading Ming_7_6 post's on espn I've concluded he's an idiot and doesn't know anything. Still, I hope we land JO.
