Rox vs. Sonics - Game 7, 1993 Western Conf. Semifinals Memories of the Glove (when he was good), the Rain Man (Shawn Kemp - not fat then), and the combo of Perkins and Ricky "The Rocket Killer" Pierce. Get to also see O.T., Kenny, Mad Max, and Robert Horry. And let's not forget the Dream! Tune into NBATV NOW!!
Where did Shawn Kemp go so horribly horribly wrong? Guy was a beast. And to be fair he still is, but more of in the way you'd look at a girl and say "She's a beast. What is she a deuce, deuce and a half?" It's not even like injuries ended this guys prime years. He could still be good! Screw that guy! They should definitely add some "in shape" clause to all long contracts, where if your weight goes past a certain percentage of your current weight, its all null and void. They're freaking athletes. It is not too much to ask that they stay away from McDonalds.
Jim Mcilvaine's contract killed Kemp and the Soncis. Kemp's pride, the management's incompetence, Vin Baker's FT....add a lot of alcohol and shake.
Someone introduced him to the buffet table!!! But honestly he was a freak of nature before he was traded. coulda shoulda woulda...
'specially those THIN ankles, but HUGE legs, and that's how he could jump so high and look nasty at the Slam Dunk contest. WHOA.
Dream claims he was fouled on that last 3-point shot, and the ref said "you wouldn't of made it anyway". But wouldn't he of had 3 foul shots?
Man, that game brought back memories w/ the Sonics. The style of play nowadays is nothing like it was back then. That is why I love ESPN Classic and NBATV!
Nope, back then it was 2 free throws regardless of what type of shot it was. Fortunately, they changed that rule soon afterward.
This game is one of many reasons why I hate the Sonics far, far, far more than I hate the Jazz. Back in those days we spanked the Jazz every chance we got.
It's hard to be a beast for a 15 year career, especially if Jim Freaking Mcilvane is making more money than you, and you figure to rectify the situation by getting traded to a bad team that can pay you more money. And then you slowly let yourself go because you aren't winning, so that even when you go to a contender, you're so far gone that you're a shadow of the shadow of your former self.
They showed the game 5 of the preceeding series against the Clippers the night before this came on. I have them both saved on the the DVR.
the other painful memory of that saturday was listening to Magic do play by play. It wasn't as bad as his talk show though.
