Oh I agree Melo wants the Knicks. I'm just not sure they could put together a better package than the Rockets. I also think the money will come first for Melo, highly doubt he leaves it on the table.

I can see the Nuggets doing this deal if they think they won't get more from New York in a sign and trade. Any trade involving New York would probably involve picking up a bad, long contract, so Yao could be good for them

honestly I dont see why the Nuggets do anything with the Knicks now. How Carmelo and the Knicks have allowed this to play out to their advantage. I think Rickets should be ahead of the Knicks in the drivers seat of a trade now. Knicks have some of the least to offer and also not wise of Denver to give into them over this now how everything has been handled. I am starting to think Carmelo might be a Rocket now. Not soon but at the deadline as the last option when Carmelo wont sign a extension for anyone. Denver wont just give into the Knicks for nothing. That leaves us.

Getting Melo wont guarantee us a championship this season. But what it does is give us a chance to resign him and attract another star (not a super star) in the off-season and re-adjust our roster accordingly. Then we can look at winning it all.

If we are in contention for Melo, then Morey should try and pry NeNe as well. Yao+Battier+Hill+Bud+NY2012 pick. Maybe we can trdae Brooks for another 1st round pick to throw in as well. Lets throw in some TE as well if we can.

I would be opposed to taking Harrington or JR Smith in return though.

and also, it would kind of be hilarious if the deciding factor that denver accepts our deal more than new york's was jordan hill. that would be absolutely mad!!

I love the thought of us getting Nene. In fact since we can facilitate their team the best? We should get Carmelo with the understanding we also take Nene with him. Because we need him in any deal where Carmelo is perhaps not resigning with us. Then if Carmelo doesnt resign? We have Nene. They have alot of good players. If he does? We have Nene and Carmelo.

I'm over Melo, seriously. I'm not interested in a 2 -4 month rental.
Iggy, G-Wall and Granger are the next options now. They're one tier below and they won't win us a title so I don't know where we go from here if we are not rebuilding.

There is only one other option...

    NASH!

You guys arent being realistic at this point. The guy has been stalling New Jersey for about 3 months now. He will NOT sign a extension with any team other than NY. Even if we get him, it'll be for only 2 months. The deal wont make us contenders and we could possible be WORSE after getting him. It's a waste of time. Morey should be fired if he pulled this move

It doesn't matter if rental or not, if Morey will not get good role players to support Melo, he'll just play soft bball. If on the other hand we did good this year with Melo and/or Morey is able to get solid role players for next year, then he'll stay.

Yeah, that’s the brightside for us, money talks and it probably will either through an extension with us or a sign and trade from HOU to NY.

I say he’s the Knicks to lose because they can put a decent package for him, even if they have to gut their team. If you’re Denver you’re thinking all teams not named Knicks or Bulls will only give up rental worth in assets, while the Knicks should give more because an extension with them would be automatic. If they slack up then definitely we are the best partner available.

I don't want to give up assets for a rental. Melo alone isn't going to get us deep into the playoffs. If he isn't interested in signing here then let's move on.

He can barely scrape out of the first round with a good team in Denver, there's no way he gets out of the first round with this team.

No thanks, I'd rather pick up Nene as a third team in the trade so we can advance in the playoffs.

The only way I'd want Melo is if Nene came with him.

This is not just a rental. If he doesn't want to resign, we can do a sign and trade with him and get back something nice. Possible draft picks and young guys. Great for rebuilding, if that is where we are headed.

It sounds like Melo is willing to wait for his contract with Denver to expire at te end of this season and then go sign with the Knicks under whatever terms the market will bear. Any trades that were required by the Knicks would be for salary cap purposes only and would not include Melo as part of the package.

No muss, no fuss. Melo goes to Gotham.

The proposed trade is probably more a starting point than a realistic end - the Nuggets are going to be burned up knowing that the potential price for Melo just went to 20 cents on the dollar. But that's what they get for being incredibly greedy and stalling out two different generous deals.

Now it comes down to beating out the Knicks' top (non-rental) offer, any other rental deals (Dal, Orl), and hoping that Chicago doesn't come in looking to reignite talks.

The beautiful trump card we now have is Yao Ming, who acts both as a pseudo-TE (instant payroll savings) and contains the possibility of S&T reward in the offseason. Expiring mega-deals (Murphy, Curry, AK47) are nice...except it doesn't offer savings this year, and ultimately means overpaying for a role player and eating serious luxury tax. If they lose Melo, they free fall out of the playoffs, and are paying ~$10M in tax money (payroll ~ $90M) while box office and merchandise revenue plummets.

We have a very rare thing in that we can zip them to the tax line immediately.

My guess at a plausible scenario to make things acceptable:
Yao, Hill, 1st rd pick for Anthony
    Anderson for TE1
    (Harrington for TE2)
(Brooks, Budinger, and Jeffries for Billups)

I'd rather not do the last two parts of the deal...but we could to offer them even deeper savings and more young talent.

The upshot is, Morey has a ridiculous amount of combinations that he could use. It's well worth the risk, especially if we aren't giving up a truly critical piece (Scola, Martin).
