the plan is just to MAKE the playoffs and he helps. He wont have do much on offense just protect the paint and rebound and NOT shoot 3 pointers. Also if morey doesnt like him we can just let him walk have the cap for later while letting our rookies gets qualiy minutes next season. win win
Not win win. We most likely have to give up those same assets you plan to give quality minutes, in order to acquire Smith. Flawed logic.
I've backed off my stance on Smith. Especially after hearing he believes he's a Max contract player. Given the source, I'm glad to see that Morey agrees.
not really . Salary matching will only require douglas, patterson and aldrich unless they want more longterm salaries.
I'm afraid, in this offense, Josh Smith will be asked to chuck 3's. That seems to be the Morey gameplan: Guards to the basket; forwards chuck 3's.
So you think Josh Smith is worth Douglas, Patterson, and Aldrich? Atlanta will want at least one rookie, I guarantee it.
Sure, Beyonce might be more exciting to watch but you can't deny that Tyler Perry is the more productive of anyone in the deal.
I would rather try to get Ilyasova. He can shoot, rebound, pass, make free throws along with respectable defense. Asik and he would fit in well for us. He will be cheaper than Smith, with his low IQ. I admit getting Ersan will be difficult for us.
Not necesarily. Luda gets his day in and day out. Though Tyler Perry's consistent performances off that Torn ACL have been impressive.
I don't know... Carl Lewis can really sing that national anthem. He doesn't even have to lipsink. You hear that Beyonce?
This happens on a regular basis. The reason it happens so often is because a large percentage of NBA sportswriters/media-types aren't very smart and are therefore easily manipulated. There really aren't very many consistently good sources of NBA-related information. Your best bet is to just figure out the logic of the collective bargaining agreement for yourself and pay attention to what teams do, how much guys get paid, etc. If you understand the logic of the CBA and pay attention to what ACTUALLY happens, then you have a good feel of what may or may not happen, and can distinguish between credible information/rumors and propaganda/PR/nonsense. For instance, lots of people spent a lot of time blabbering about what Memphis would/could eventually get for Rudy Gay. Very few people expected them to only be able to get a second tier prospect (Ed Davis), an expiring contract (Jose Calderon), and a second round pick for Rudy Gay. [And yes, I realize that they turned around and swapped Calderon's contract for Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye, but that is, for all intents and purposes, a separate trade.] Many people were shocked by how little Memphis got back for Gay, including some experienced NBA sportswriters who should know better (but don't). What's weird here is that anyone who actually understands the logic of the CBA and has been paying attention to actual NBA transactions over the last however many years should have expected Memphis to get back pretty much exactly the sort of package that they got here. If you pay attention, you understand that almost nobody wants a player with this level of production at that salary level. This drives down the player's trade value, since the number of potential trade partners is extremely limited. By the way, don't expect Atlanta to get a whole lot for Josh Smith. When Atlanta finally trades him, the same media/fans will rip Atlanta to shreds. These people don't realize that Smith is a few months away from being one of the league's most overpaid players and one of its worst contracts. For this reason, I expect Smith to be traded to a poorly managed team, and there are quite a few poorly managed teams out there. Houston isn't one of them, so I will be shocked if Houston winds up with Smith here. Well... I wouldn't be surprised if Morey has offered Patrick Patterson, Toney Douglas, and Cole Aldrich for Smith, and he should make that offer. But Atlanta surely can and will find some sucker willing to give up more than that.
