A very good point. But again, what if the refs decide to 'let them play'. It happens all the time in the playoffs. It happened in the Lakers series two years ago.

Being in the bonus at the end of the game is not a sure bet.

You can bet that Morey has a more accurate and detailed study in his vault. But this article gives a good framework of what his study probably looks like.

Haven't read the whole thread. Great bball read. I'm sure Morey has the stats from all the games, plus takes into account 3 pters and ft %.

I wonder what complete data would say about Martin?

One is a SG, passes, can hit the three ball and get past his man with a sidestep for an open mid range shot. also cuts to the basket.

One is a SF, is a black hole with one goto move. Doesn't cut or shoot well.

Pretty much the only similarity is they draw alot of fouls.

Shot selection and shooting ability. Martin can draw a lot more fouls on the perimeter on pump fakes, Maggette gets all his fouls at the rim which is better in my mind. Also, their builds are on opposite ends of the spectrum.

So u think maggatte doest cut, pass, or have a goto move, but martin does? They're cut from the same cloth. Martin is a better 3pt shooter and maggette is a better mid range shooter. Maggette gets to the rim, martin uses shot fakes. Maggette is a superior rebounder and neiother passes the ball unless they have to. Both injury prone, martin younger, maggette tougher. Same player.

LOL he got you there Leeb. Or did you get yourself?

KM's 3 pt shooting ability makes him far superior for this team. With Yao and Scola being offensive threats in the paint you need guys who will provide spacing, which is why all 3 of our perimeter players need to be accurate 3 pt shooters.

PER favors players who gets a lot of touches and rebounds. Even if you're shooting like crap you'll probably get a decent PER if you shoot enough times. Although numbers don't lie, interpreting them can be a tricky thing and while PER is a good measure of productivity its not without its share of flaws. As such I don't think PER should be the basis of determining whether a guy is outperforming his contract or not, especially since DEFENSE is something it doesn't take into account.

Regarding KM, he's deadly in the bonus but you act like fts is all he's good for. As already shown in the data itself KM is more than capable of scoring in other ways besides fts. Melo might be a better "contested shot" taker than him, but since you're paying KM half of what you're paying Melo, you can actually afford Scola along with KM and have them play off of each other rather than just Melo who has to do it all by himself. Since the salary of the two players are different, your expectations of each should also be different.
