Stockton is a senile geezer who is SAYING THE WRONG THINGS EVERY SECOND OF EVERY GAME. "Barron Davis fouls out!" (foul was on somebody else). "And goaltending called!" (it was an offensive foul). "Foul on Derek Fisher" (Derek Fisher isn't even in the building) "A shocking development... " (said 500 times... for anything that happens... esp. if he gets an erection at his age). "Utah scores 61 in the first quarter!" (first half) "Charles Barkley must be loving this" (any good announcer wouldn't care what Charles Barkley is thinking). Seriously... Dick Stockton was below average... when he was in his prime 25 years ago. Now, he's a joke. Kevin Harlan is over the top when he wants to be, but he can also flat-out call a game seriously (as he's done every year for the NCAA tournament). He also doesn't make this many STUPID mistakes.
come on now, even boozer couldn't outmuscle yao. yao was like a wall any time boozer tried to back him down. just not quick enough.
Did Boozer even attempt that after game 1? Regardless, Yao gets great balance from phenominal lower body strength... but not his upper body. Its a big reason why he has trouble holding on to the ball... its a big reason why he struggles for position... and its a thing he'll still have to improve if he doesn't want to be shooting fadeaways while guys like Okur pushes him out 18 feet from the basket. And don't underestimate strength + quickness... which Derron has a lot of. He was able to outlast B-Davis, who looked like he was about to keel over as overtime started.
With all due respect to Derek Fisher the person, he has been stinky this year. The one and only thing he's done well is shoot FTs. He is the Jazz version of Rafer. Basically he couldn't do anything right. His two seasons at Golden State weren't very good either so I'm very glad the Rockets didn't sign him. Mullin was rightly lampooned for giving him stupid money. Not to pile on him too much, he wasn't that good in LA either. Kobe did for him what Wade did for Damon Jones. Fish is a really good guy, but let's not get carried away. For his career, he's been a below average rotation player despite his "heart".
why would i? he hit tons of big shots for the 3-peat lakers, who i hated, thus no fisher love. i remember most people thinking fisher was a good idea. whoever, golden state paid him over the mle i believe so it didn't really matter what the rockets wanted.
no, b/c he tried it 4 or 5 times and realized he was running into a wall and he would never overpower yao. he definitely doesn't have the upper body strength that he does in his tree-trunk legs, i was just pointing out that when guys aren't shoving two arms as hard as they can into yao's back (him posting up) and instead are trying to overpower him (yao getting posted up), yao basically always wins. and maybe i'm hearing it wrong, but does stockton keep calling deron williams, derek williams? b/c it sure sounds like it and since utah has another pg with the name derek, it would be a possible mistake for someone as mistake prone as stockton.
Fisher's daughter had an emergency cancer surgery that night in NY, he fly right back and got permission to play from his wife. that dude has heart.
What I would give to have that guy on the Rockets. He can shoot, defend, and is fairly consistent. Then he goes and does something as admirable as miss a playoff game for his daughter! Only to haul ass and make it back for the 4th! Makes a huge defensive play against Baron Davis to force a turnover in the closing seconds of regulation and eventually force overtime. WOW. I hate Utah. But they should be proud tonight. They won because of Derek Fisher. Not the first time he has pushed his playoff team over the hump to get a V.
Fisher delivers in every way Hollinger By John Hollinger ESPN Insider SALT LAKE CITY -- It was Derek Fisher's night . . . and for that, he can thank his former teammates. Fisher forced a key turnover in the final seconds of regulation, then hit a key 3-pointer in overtime to clinch the victory as Utah beat Golden State 127-117 on Wednesday to extend to a 2-0 series lead. It capped a day on which basketball was the least of his concerns. Fisher had flown in from New York Wednesday evening after one of his twin 10-month-old daughters, Tatum, was in surgery all day for a rare cancer called retinoblastoma in her left eye. Fisher had missed Game 1 to be with his wife and daughter for the procedure, flying from Salt Lake City on Monday afternoon for the procedure at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Fortunately, the surgery was successful -- so successful that Fisher, wife and baby all flew together back to Salt Lake City afterward. "We're still not out of the woods here for another two or three months," said Fisher, "but for now, everything is OK. " But since the surgery by noted specialist Dr. David Abramson didn't end until 4:15 p.m. ET, Fisher couldn't make it out west in time for the game's 9 p.m. ET start. He did his best though, hopping a charter flight to Salt Lake City and then getting a police escort on the thankfully short drive from the airport to Energy Solutions Arena. While his wife and daughter went home, Fisher changed, stretched and took to the court with 3:18 left in the third quarter. He entered to a resounding ovation -- the loudest of the night in a generally loud arena -- and immediately checked into the game. It was just in the nick of time, too.
Deron did play about 10 minutes less in the game than Baron. That probably had a little to do with it.
Well I missed most of the game except the part where the Warriors choked at missing free throws. I knew once the game went to overtime that the Warriors would be toast. However, I still think the Warriors win this series. Look, they could have easily won either one of these first 2 games and I don't see how there is any way possible that the Jazz win in Oakland. That being said, though, the Warriors will have to win a game in SLC whether it is game 5 or game 7. I think after being re-energized by their crowd, they'll come back to SLC and get a win.
I do not know how to mention this to the people on clutchfans, but i sort of like the Jazz. I like how Williams plays. I have alsways likes how Kirilenko played. and I'm really impressed with Boozer. I am rooting for the jazz to win this series (and maybe even the championship). Also i still think GS is overhyped. I think the jazz will close this in 6 games
what Fisher did was unbelievable.. he came back from his daughters emergency surgery, went to the arena and went straight to the scorers table to check in... no stretching, no practice shooting, no warm-ups.. he went from the airport to the middle of a playoff game after witnessing his daughter go through a life-threatening surgery and chemotherapy treatment... no matter how far the Jazz go this year, this story will be one that will go down in NBA History with all the other ones: Willis Reed hobbling onto the court in the Finals, Jordan playing with the flu, all the players (Chuck Hayes) whose babies were born the day of a game, etc...
It has been a good series so far. GS is playing over their heads in the playoffs this year, but I really admire their tenacity. Utah has shown some real backbone weathering the storm in the first two games and maintaining home court advantage.
Dominant power forward. All you need is an inside game....and Utah has one. And better players to surround Williams and Boozers then we did. That's why they beat us. And.....just remember all Utah has done is hold server - and barely. We all know how much a 2-0 lead means now.
Can't understand why Nellie won't play Josh Powell or Adonal Foyle. Yeah, you want to go small, but he needs a bruiser like Powell to guard and box out Boozer cuz the Warriors get killed when they don't have a rebounder on the floor.
If Nellie were coaching the Rockets, his first goal would be to trade Yao Ming... just like his first goal in NY was to trade Ewing (which managment wouldn't let him do, so he resigned).
