Good night, small ball. Yet another year officially goes by where small ball still does not win you a championship. Our final four is quite the contrary (as stated already by Sam Fisher's other thread).

he may not be good at D, but he's been big on the inside today. all over the offensive glass (5 oreb) and has 4 blocks. and he helped keep a few others alive he didn't get credit for.

should that apply to mvp's too?

    Sperms = Hate them
    j*zz = Hate them
Cavs = Hate them cause they suck, and the world thinks King James is the second coming.

    Detroit it is, by default.

good, duncan didn't get the block record. now, as much as it would piss me off to see the east win it again, i gotta go for detroit to beat utah and the spurs, whoever wins the next series. so basically i need them to beat the spurs.

I am pulling for the Pistons the rest of the way. But they will probably get beaten by the EVIL Spurs.

Not as much, no, because your big man is the anchor of your defense. A dominant big man on the defensive side can actually compensate for weaker perimeter defense. A guard no the other hand isn't nearly as valuable defensively as the man in the middle and can't ever compensate for bad interior D. I think we saw that with the layup clinic the Jazz put on the Rockets with Yao's horrendous interior D in that series. You couldn't compensate for Yao's shortcomings even if you had a prime years Pippen on your team.

It's not the best example there is, but it's the most recent one I can think of. Another one I guess would be Kenny Smith's sucky defense and how Dream bailed him out time after another.

I know he wont be going anywhere, but it would be interesting to see Phoenix with a different coach. D'Antoni deseres credit for letting them play so freely, but he just hasnt instilled the defensive mentality needed to win it all in the playoffs. The team has such an abundance of offensive talent, that if they were actually serious defensively, who would stop them?

MVP of the series...... Robert Horry.

Everything was planned by him in finals seconds of Game 4.

    Pure genius.

PS. Btw, Nick. Marion disappeared yet again when it mattered. You should check out what the Suns fans are saying about him..yet again. :p

Would've been interesting if Amare and Boris Diaw played game 5. Gotta love the NBA rewarding the team that instigated the scuffle and took a cheap shot and a nice elbow.

Ultimately the depth of the Spurs wore the Suns down. You can see a few key players lacking 'bounce' and energy in game 6 (namely Bell, Thomas, and Nash). And of course, Bowen doesn't miss from the corner EVER and Ginobili hits every three (and gets the call for 3 ft's if he does happen to miss -- stupidity on the part of Bell). And that's game.

Marion's great at what he does. He just 'disappears' because when the opposing defense tightens, he can't be relied upon to look for his own offense (read: weak off-the-dribble shooter and lack of handles). Unfortunately for him, ALL teams tighten up their D for the playoffs. Hence, his performance in the playoffs looks sporadic. But when the Suns are ABLE to run, he's a monster.

This is unfortunately a problem for a player like Barbosa, who also can't shoot off the dribble.

If the Suns can get another guard who can break down the defense and look for his own offense, that could be the key. As funny as it sounds, I think they do somewhat miss Eddie House's instant offense off the bench. Too bad he's only good as a chucker. A Rashard Lewis addition would be perfect.

And here is an easy one: Spurs, 2007 NBA Champions. And almost nobody saw that coming about two months ago. We all thought there would be a Mavs-Suns Western Conference Finals. Didn't happen. The Mavs looked unbeatable. If the Jazz win it all, what would we think then?

Too bad. I had been rooting for te Spurs second only to the Warriors until Horry's dirty hit. Now, I have to decide which I dislike more between the Spurs and the Jazz. I guess I'll be rooting for the EC.
